Before I got my boars I read somewhere that sometimes guinea pigs 'chirp', and that nobody really knows what that sound means and it's usually babies calling for their mum or something like that? However one of my boars chirps! It's the cutest thing and we weren't expecting it at all, it literally sounds like a little bird is in the room, we were so confused the first few times we thought it was from outside but realised it was little Martin! Does anybody else have pigs who chirp? Nelson, our other boar has never done it but Martin seems to do it at least once a day for a tiny bit nowadays. It's always when he's just pottering about eating hay/sniffing around the cage so I assume it is a happy noise? :) It's so cute!

TomTom is our resident singer, and for no apparent reason other than because he enjoys it.

He takes a couple of seconds to warm up.

I love the Westies in your avatar.

That video is so cute. How many different noises to they actually make?

That video is cute! Martin is much more softly spoken haha he only chirps really quietly a little bit it's really soft and quiet. I think it's definitely a happy noise from watching him it's always when he's just pottering about enjoying some hay etc so I think it's like an 'I'm content' noise or something.

And they are lovely dogs! They're my mother-in-laws, unfortunately she's not quite so lovely herself and I'm barred from her house now so who knows when/if I'll ever see them again especially Angel, the one on the left as she's getting quite old now and not in the best of health. :(

My boar Streak has been heard chirping several times - so loud we could hear him from the other side of the house. I must admit I'm a bit worried though because I haven't heard it since we had him neutered 5 1/2 weeks ago.

They are getting a new cage and he is going in with my little girl at the end of this week though so maybe we will hear it again...

I've heard it from each of my pigs, but not regularly. I've caught Linney at it a couple of times, and Sundae once or twice as well. I'm not sure what it means, but the other pig will stop and listen to the one 'singing.'

Pixel is our resident choir-mistress - she goes into a bit of a piggy trance and locks eyes with anyone in the room while she sings the song of her people (very loudly!)

I heard a very short burst of chirping yesterday. The singer is still a mystery though!

My Deedee often chirps too! And whenever she chirps, Meemee would just sit quietly and would stop whatever she's doing. She would also hide like something's scary. I've read somewhere that if a piggie chirps, they are something like in a trance. I don't know what causes it. But if Deedee has been chirping for a long time, like for a few minutes, we'll just offer her grass and she would stop and seem like she just woke up from sleeping!
