Anyone know much about that guinea pig chirping/song thing?

Cassie keeps doing it about 4 am and, honestly, it sounds like a car alarm - wakes me up. The other two piggies look like they are wondering what on earth is going on too.

It's not that she's looking for attention, as she carries on doing it when I arrive (all tired and 'please shut up!') and put the light on, but I can usually distract her for a little while with some food.

Didn't sleep well last night anyway, so I would be deeply grateful for any tips to stop the Cassie alarm call!

Sorry but i'd love to be able to hear it and to experience it for real :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: :smitten:
She's obviously a very happy piggie awwwwwwwwwww :)

One of my piggies was singing in the night once, but it sounded like bird song! Your piggie must be tone deaf! No Piggie X-Factor for you!

I was too afraid to turn the light on in case the noise stopped, so I never found out which piggie it was! :(

It does sound sort of like bird song, but only one note!

I forgot to say, there are 2 shut doors between us - it's that loud!

Twinkle my Aby/Peruvian boar who is 6 months old done it a couple of weeks back when one of my other pigs Cuzzy was going to the bridge. :( Cuzzy was in a box with hay and Twinkle started singing. It is like they are gathering all the pigs to say goodbye. Sunshine, Twinkle's cage mate was terrified though and didn't come out of his igloo.

There are other threads on this on the board, if you search through you should be able to find them. :)

OMG that is so sweet and sad :'( :'( :'( :'( :'(

The thing is Twinkle at the mo is a handful (teenage stage) so I was amazed at his sensitivity, I think once he 'grows up' he'll be an ace little pig! :)

Biased I know! ;D

Aww... that's sweet. The way it always sounds is like an alarm call. Except everything always looks fine, and it's always in the night/early morning. Maybe it's a 'wake up' call, like a rooster!

The first time I heard it, I was convinced that there was a magpie chattering in the kitchen - I can never quite identify who it is (13 suspects) but it really is captivating.

I'll have to record it for you! ;D Really hoping the little toe-rag doesn't do it tonight.... >:D

Either Timmy or Sunny did this yesterday and again last night, I felt honoured to have heard it. I think it was Timmy, my son videoed the end of it on his camera phone. It went on for about 3 minutes! I used to feel envious that others piggies did this but I am happy to have heard it for real :)

Oh yes I know that feeling! When I first heard it I thought, aahh how sweet, what a wonderful sound etc. 3 hours later I thought, What a RACKET! (or words to that effect ::)). We have this every now and again, at night, thanks to Jacob. I think he's calling for a mate. But yes it is very loud and persistent.

I have just been listening to one of mine chirping. My guineas are all outside in a shed and covered area which is right under my bedroom window. I had been in bed for about 20 mins when it started up. I don't know who it is but it had 2 different sounds so it could possibly be 2 of them singing together. I wish I knew! I have only heard this once before a few years ago from a guinea who is no longer with us.

Touch wood, she hasn't done it anymore overnight. I honestly think she is calling to wake us up, as she's hungry! ::) ;D

I've heard it a grand total of..... once. :D Not sure who it was but I can tell you it was Sable... or Rose. Or Yumi, or Maru, or Houdini, or Ivy, or Conker, or Eleanor. ;D

I think short of wearing earplugs to bed or building the world's first sound-proofed hutch you're going to have to put up with it. ;D

If you do record it, please share, I'd love to hear it again. :smitten:
