Chippy's weight is concerning me a bit. She weighed 700 to 715 grams in May. In June her weights have been gradually declining: 715, 699, 658, and 647. This decline was from June 3rd till today (June 25th). I don't think it's reason to panic, but we are going to switch to weighing daily. Will schedule with the vet and out of an abundance of caution offer some Oxbow CC once daily.

Good that you have her seen. Fingers crossed there‘s an easy explanation for the weight loss and Chippy can put the weight back on quickly.
Thanks! We're hoping she's back to good health soon. I'm going to call the vet tomorrow and see when we can get her scheduled. I'll keep this thread updated.

Sounds like you’re on top of things already. The amount of weight lost per week isn’t too much of a worry but the steady decline is. Hopefully it’s nothing major.

Thanks, that's what I was thinking too. It's not a major drop, but the steady decline worries me. She didn't want to eat Oxbow CC on her own (we tried two flavors and even mixing a bit of baby food squash in with it) so we decided to syringe it to her. We got 3 mLs in. She wasn't happy about it, but it's necessary for now. Thanks again for the support. I appreciate it a lot! :luv:

Chippy has a vet appointment on July 1st. That's the soonest our preferred vet could see her. If Chippy shows any signs that she shouldn't wait that long to see a vet we will certainly have her seen as an emergency. I don't prefer the emergency vet. I just don't think they are as knowledgeable, but we'll do everything we can for our little fur babies.

Hope Chippy is ok, 50-60g weight loss over 2 to 3 weeks is certainly worth a vet check in the next week but not an immediate cause for emergency panic if she still seems well in herself- are her poops ok? Might the hot weather be a factor? I assume she is still a youngster at that sort of weight unless she is just very petite?

We did have a few small poos in the cage the past two weeks, but couldn't figure out which piggy they were coming from. Now I'm assuming they were hers as her cagemates' weights are fine. The hot weather could be a factor, but our piggies are inside our home and we keep the house at 70 to 75° F so she should be ok. Chippy is one year old, but has always been a bit petite compared to our other piggies. Thank you for the advice.

Chippy's weight is back up to normal. We saw the vet at her appointment today. Basically, the vet thinks that Chippy has a high metabolism. We are to just keep an eye on her for now. Since we already offer unlimited hay and pellets, the vet said that we can give her a bit more veg than the other piggies. (Chippy has always had a voracious appetite, but remained on the petite side). Vet thought that Chippy sounded a bit congested, but since we haven't noticed any sneezing she said to just keep an eye on that. Her eyes are clear, nose is clear, so no other concerns in that area. Overall, not really sure why Chippy lost weight, but we will continue to weigh daily for a bit longer just in case and then gradually decrease frequency of weighing until we are back at the once weekly weight checks.

I am pleased to hear that Chippys weight is back to normal and that the vet isn’t concerned. My Edward has lost weight but as he’s still eating and drinking as normal and his poos are normal, my vet has put it down to his age as he’s 5 and a half and just told us to keep and eye on him

Thanks, I'm glad that she's ok too. Chippy is only one year old so I don't think it's her age, but I appreciate you sharing that with me. I hope your Edward is doing well!
