One of my sweet boys has chipped his top teeth. Both top teeth broke off smoothly and at the same length. It took me 24 hours to notice they were chipped. He had a small scrape on his lip which is healing good. I tried to see his teeth and I though they were fine. He was eating and drinking normally until I gave him a carrot last night. When he tried to eat it he couldn't get any pieces off and was quite gentle. This time when I looked at his teeth I noticed the skin behind his upper teeth was scraped. His teeth are below that area of gums.

He is acting normal and even eating quite normal. He does eat pellets, but with some discomfort. He even ate a normal amount of hay. I want to take him to a vet, but the only vets around are for dogs, cats, or farm animals. The nearest exotic vet is hours away.

I posted this thread in hopes that I can help him get over this with the least discomfort. I will drive to an exotic vet if necessary, but right now he is doing well. What worries me is the scrape inside his mouth. I think his bottom teeth are causing it. Is there a way to disinfect inside his mouth?

Current care - opinions wanted
He is eating hay so I'm letting him have hay like normal. I hope that he will only eat what hay he is comfortable with so he doesn't hurt that spot inside his mouth even more. I ground up his pellets and added water to them. He ate the pellet mush very well when mixed with a veggie puree. I am considering feeding soft pellets until the sore is healed. I will weigh him daily.

Thanks everyone and sorry for the long post! Let me know if you think I'm doing the right thing. How long do teeth take to grow?

hello, welcome to the forum

Sorry to hear about this :(

First off here is a link to vets in your area, i just had a glance at your IP address to do this. Please update your profile with your location as it help us tailor any advice to your locallity Veterinarians: Nebraska - Guinea Lynx Records

Poor little lad. Is he eating okay now with veg? The front teeth should grow back, one of our girls broke her front tooth and for a while we had to shred her food into strips so she could pick it up easily and also hand feed her them as she couldnt get it from off ground. The main thing is getting him to eat still

The vet would most likely give him some pain releif metacam to help with any pain caused by the sore sot. Am tagging in @furryfriends (TEAS) as she is an expert on dental care.

Don’t know if this will help but I was recommended to use a good quality baby food when I had a piggy with mouth issues.

After giving him soft pellets for a week he was able to comfortably eat normal pellets. He still had cut veggies/baby food for a week after that. Now he can eat totally normal. The sore in his mouth healed quickly on the soft food. The teeth just took a couple weeks to grow out.

Thanks everyone!
