Apparently I adopted a handful last week. Oh my gosh is she such a handful. She chews on everything including the bars, she eats Rufio's food for him, she wheeks so loud and so often, and she constantly wants attention. This is also the pig that escaped from her cage my chewing a whole in the corex. Now chewing on the houses and such is fine because that's why they're there for. But the cage bars? That's not good. Any ideas? Does she need more things to chew on?

Did I mentioned she climbs the grids? I'm losing my mind.

If it weren't for the fact that she's adorable and a total sweetheart I don't think I could handle it lol

That's the part that's driving me the most insane. She clearly wants out and to be held and handled and cuddled but when I try to pick her up it's a huge battle. Rufio just sits there like a blob when I go to pick him up.

Oh mine fight me too... You could try bribing her into a cuddle cup or some other conveyance to get her out of the cage. Most guineas love attention but don't like being picked up.

Fudge bites the bars if I'm giving the boys treats like grass or veg. He only bites if I'm feeding hutch...just to let me know he is still there lol

I have a bar biter. I tried ignoring her, picking her up, clicking my fingers, clapping. Nothing works at all. Amelia Jane bites the bars when she wants food. I understand your concerns but sorry that I have no advice.

Piggies do tend to chew on cage bars for attention, especially when you're about to give them food or they think you're giving them food. The only thing I can suggest is to make sure that they always have heaps of hay, and like you've done, give them little wood houses or safe toys to chew on.
Good luck, hope she settles down a bit more soon!

Hiccup does this when I'm by the hutch but ignoring her and therefore not providing her with food. She actually sounds very similar to your new girl! I'm afraid I don't have any suggestions though, hope she doesn't drive you too crazy!

Alright as I've been watching her I have found the pattern. She wants food! This was my view when I woke up this morning:

You'd think they've never been fed before in their life.

She has totally changed her attitude toward him. She actually seems to enjoy his company now. They occasionally snuggle together. Sometimes she gets tired of him and pushes him away and then he rumble struts. But other than that they're a happy couple. :)

Aww that is lovely.

Random unrelated question: Do any of you have levels on your cages? I made one and they don't use the ramp to go up. I put their food up there to encourage them to use it. If I put them halfway up the ramp they'll go the rest of the way. And they'll go down the ramp when they're done eating. Is there a secret to getting them to go up on their own?

I guess if you just leave them to figure it out with some encouragement like food or their favourite toy up the top; mine did that. Hope this helps x
