I have just built two identical cages out of cubes for the girls and the boys. The cages are 2 x 5 with a loft type area which is 2x1 cube.

They have plenty of space but they would rather sit up top near the ramp and chew the fleece and all the zip ties they can find! The girls have been worse than the boys, i even put some veggies in there to stop them from chewing, they ignored that and went right back to destroying the cage.

I'm more worried about their health than the fact that they're destroying everything. Will they constantly do this or are they just exploring their new surroundings and is there anything i can do to stop them? At this stage they're even more interested in shavings, if it was me i'd be into the veggies and fruit!

Any help will be greatly appreciated, thanks :)

They have got a hay rack in there, they'll much at that for a while then its straight back to other stuff. They've only been in there for about a day.

If they've only been in there for a day, they're probably just tasting everything. I notice all of mine will taste every thing new I put in the cage, new bedding, new toys, etc.

If you are worried that they will eat the zip ties, cut those ties and put on the spots where they can't reach.

The novelty will wear off soon though.

Just wanted to add, make sure they don't eat too much bedding. If they don't stop in a few days, you might need to swtich to different bedding.
