Teenage Guinea Pig
Hi everyone,
We have recently upgraded our cage from a 2x5 to a 3x5 - instead of buying extra fleece bedding to fill the 1x5 space I have bought some bobbly bath mats as it was the cheaper option and not many piggy fleece bedding companies are open/shipping quickly so thought it was the best bet.
My guinea pigs used to have the odd nibble at their normal fleece bedding but not anything major (I think it was where veg had been before it had been gobbled up) so when I added the bobbly fleece bath mats in and saw them doing the odd nibble I didn’t panic too much as I thought they were just being inquisitive.
However one of the guinea pig does seem to be very nibbly. It almost looks like he’s just pulling at the threads and possibly chewing at the odd tiny piece of thread that comes off - they haven’t nibbled any of the bobbles straight off but I can see in a couple spaces (under one of their hideys) where they have pulled it so some of the threads of the bobbles are sticking up.
Will this be a problem if they’re swallowing some of it? Biting at it?
The only other thing I can think off is to put some carefresh bedding in its place but it would seem a shame as they love snuggling on the soft bath mats and the carefresh bedding could go everywhere. They’ve also been a bit temperamental (teenage boys) so I’m trying to keep cage changes to a minimum too so as not to rock the boat!
Thanks in advance xx
