I think she may well have ovarian cysts. She has been rather quiet lately but is eating well.

I have been away a fair bit recently (house hunting) and was shocked when I checked her today.

Will be taking her to the vet. Any idea what a spay costs these days? Oyr vets are really really good so I am lucky from that point of view. We are in the south east so not a cheap area!

She is the first pic. Second is with her sister, Rosie and last pic is their boar, Cufflinks.

Hi
Very sorry. I hope that all goes well.

Vets have quite high electricity bills and medical product prices are also soaring, so you will have to ask your clinic for an estimate. Things are so much in flux right now. :(

So she is booked in for next Wednesday. She will have an x ray and if it is definately ovarian cysts she will be spayed.

X ray 30.00
Spay 120.00

She is 5. She was licking Rosie's eyes when they were at the vet. She has been given some loxicam for pain relief. Such a tiny nozzle but an even tinier syringe so cant work out how to get it out of the bottle!

Hi

Stick the syringe tip into the middle of the plastic arrangement underneath the outer cap; turn the bottle upside down, allow the fluid to settle at the bottom just above the nozzle (only takes a few seconds) and gently pull the syringe plunger up to the recommended dosage while still holding the bottle upside down. ;)

All the best for next Wednesday!

The syringe tip is the same size as the nozzle on the bottle.

With my labrador's loxicam the syringe fits over the bottle nozzle.

Perhaps you could post a picture of the nozzle?

(I’ve just had metacam nozzle/syringe battles when medicating my now at the bridge rabbit, Patch - the 1ml syringe wasn’t compatible with the bottles. The first bottle was fine but the second and third I had to do it two different ways. The second, the vet told me I’d have to cut the top off (leaving enough thread to still be able to screw the lid on between uses) and just put the syringe directly into the liquid. The third, the syringe was too small for the hole so when I tipped the bottle up, a little metacam leaked out down the side of the syringe while I was trying to draw it up)

Is the guinea pig loxicam the same as the one for dogs?

Yes it’s the same it’s just that the dog version is stronger.

Cat version is 0.5mg/ml and dog version which is 1.5mg/ml.

Cat version is licensed for piggies. Dog version isn’t licensed for piggies. Both are safe for piggies though

If your bottle is similar to this

And has a top like this

Then you need to cut the top off to get a syringe in. That's what I do - I think otherwise the top is only usable as a dropper. There is a fine groove in the side of the top, if you push the tip of a sharp knife into it and cut it a bit, you can then prise the top off.

The nozzle as per the picture above works with the kg measure syringe which comes with the bottle. Patch had dog loxicom and I had to take the top off as per above and put the 1ml syringe into the liquid

I've just noticed that the top/nozzle I pictured only has a pin-sized hole at the base of it...it must be designed either as a dropper or for use with hypodermic syringes for injection. For oral syringes the top has to be removed.

Thank you both. It is ever so sad. She was such a gentle little soul. The other two are a bit subdued today. Could be to do with being at the vet's for so long. I asked the vet to put Cherry Blossom's body in with them for a bit so that they would know that she had gone ...

Only two guinea pigs now. Rosie (smooth coated) and her boar Cufflinks.

I'm so sorry to hear your news. It is really hard making these decisions for our older ones but we try our best for them.
Our thoughts are with you, Rosie and Cufflinks,
Sleep well lovely Cherry Blossom x
