Ok, so Maggie is still at the vets, has been since Thursday, will be there until at least Tuesday, if she lives that long. Meanwhile, Big Dave is sad on his own :(

He's all miserable, won't come out of his house, not eating his veggies and just generally sad. (Maggie on the other hand, is having a great time and couldn't care less!)

If/when Maggie comes home, she'll be in a hospital cage next to his. I can't switch things around so that Dave is next to J&C until then, as there's not enough physical space for me to arrange the cages in such a way. He's got a teddy, but ignores that.

Any ideas on how to make him happier?

Sounds a bit odd, but when one of my girls was separated due to a fungal problem I tried warming the teddy up (putting it on a hot water bottle for a while) she would cuddle up to it rather than ignore it which she did when I first put it in with her. Poor Big Dave :( Hope he feels bit happier soon!

Poor Big Dave, when Putt was separated from Pitch when she was at the vets, we used to try distractions in the cage. Hay tubes, cardboard stuffed with herbs and hay just to try to distract her a little.
How is Maggie doing at the vets today?

He's not interested in anything (although has demolished a pile of hay), he's just sat in his house.

Maggie is fine, stable, just waiting for surgery on Monday, wouldn't know there was anything wrong with her now her breathing has settled again. Just had a call from the vet and nearly had heart failure but he was just calling with a late update...phew! I've told them that if she stays the same, I don't need a call twice a day, just call of anything changes or before surgery on Monday. I dropped some more food in for her earlier, they asked if I wanted to visit...I politely declined, and said that I'm pretty sure she doesn't care of I visit or not :))

Pleased little Maggie is doing well. It's good of the vets to keep you updated, although I agree my heart would be in my mouth with them ringing on a Saturday evening.
Love to Big Dave, hoping all goes well Monday x

Thanks :)

We update our clients at least twice a day...but not at 10pm unless Pre arranged like after emergency surgery or something!

Oh poor little Dave. It is hard when they are lonely. I would give him more cuddles.

Poor Dave! It is hard to comfort a bereaved piggy. I would also recommend something warm and soft; ideally smelling of the piggy that is missed. Apart from regular cuddles and lots of talking to, you have to sit it out until tomorrow or whenever Maggie is coming home.

I found the way to Big Dave's broken heart.... Dandelions! He shot out of his house, nommed the lot then wheeked for more....then went back into hiding when more failed to arrive :(

Aww Dave. I really hope Maggie is back to being well soon and they can be together again.

Awwwww poor Big Dave give him a cuddle from me (and one to maggie too!) I'd echo what other members have said something soft that smells of Maggie and plenty of tlc in the meantime. Wishing maggie a speedy recovery x
