Checking dose of cat metacam for a guinea pig

Please can I ask about cat metacam for our 550g, seven year old, piggy Daisy? She’s bright and all about food and has been pretty mobile.

The vet prescribed 0.12 of metacam daily a couple of weeks back. Although they said 0.15 was fine too. Having read forum posts here, I asked about if I could split the dose across the day. They said not to. Our piggy happily takes the metacam when it’s due and so we know it’s helping. She’s a bit slower on her feet today and I think she could do with more metacam, if possible spread over the day. She’s definitely starting to ask for it earlier in the day.

What dose am I ok to give her please? I’ll happily check with our vet again too if you think that’s best. It’s just I know they’re not a guinea pig specialist.

We know her weights low (hence the vet visit) and so we’re offering critical care as well as all the usual food which she is eating. I’d just like to keep her a bit more comfortable so she stays active and happy as long as possible.

This dosage is as low as your vet can get away with. Splitting it would essentially render it cosmetic.

Daisy is just up having a drink and some nuggets which is good to see.

Yes, you can go a lot higher if needed. You can safely give the full higher dosage twice a day and still only give a single drop of dog metacam each time in comparison.
