Hi
Can I check this doseage please: 1.25ml twice daily Frusemide diuretic 20mg/5ml for a female guinea. Seems high? This is for her bladder.. she had an x-ray and she is stone free but is still occasionally making straining noises when peeing. She is also on poassium citrate and an antbiotic to clear a possible infection- she had cystitis twice which we cured but were left with this occasional wheeking when peeing/pooping. All other vitals are excelent- lively, eating, drinking lots.
Thanks

Hi

How much does your sow weigh? I am not a medications specialist but you can always give the clinic a call and double-check. Your vet may be maxing out the possible dosage range.

Hi Wiebke
She's around 950g I believe.
The reason I asked is I've given Frusemide before but never anywhere near this amount.
Thanks

I would ring the clinic and ask them whether they have made a potential decimal mistake. They should know. It is not all that uncommon.

As a forum and as medically not qualified people we cannot for legal reasons tell you to reduce the dosage and you should never do so on spec. Speaking to your vet and confirming the dosage with the person who prescribed it is the correct way forward.

OK thanks Wiebke, understood.

(I don't really pay too much attention to vets anymore to be honest, I make my own way in pet ownership...based on many years of experience with appalling lack of training (2 weeks for "exotics" in a 4 year course) and the current fact that insurance companies own most vetinary practices in the UK and are at the same time the insurers of the pet owners...a scandal in the making if ever there was one)
