When I make my C&C cage up I'd like to line it with vetbed however I understand that this can be an expensive option so for those who use vetbed, can you point me in the direction of the cheapest place to get it.

Also, if you use that, do you then put fleeces on top or do you use it in place of fleeces?

I get all of mine off ebay, you can get a full roll or an offcut fairly priced. I put towels underneath

I also bought mine from ebay (cheap offcut pieces). Look out for seconds too - I got some which was perfect except for some marks on the underside, which obviously didn't matter but it was even cheaper! :)

Some people put fleece on top of vetbed but I'm pretty sure most don't bother. I guess you could add fleece if you wanted to minimise the amount of hay & stuff getting stuck in the Vetbed pile. Also fleece would "jazz up" the cage as you can get such a wide variety of colourful & decorative fleeces.

The main thing is to make sure that you put something really absorbent underneath the vetbed (towels, newspaper, puppy pads or incontinence pads etc)

If you're specifically after genuine, official, "Vetbed" then just be aware that you may find some sellers referring to similar looking products as "Vetbed" when they're not actually the genuine product! (Not sure how effective similar type products are as I've only ever used the real stuff)

Another couple of tips: think carefully about what colour you choose....eg I've found the grey version stays looking less grubby for longer but the white version is very good for showing up any blood. Also, don't forget to allow for shrinkage when you measure up and cut Vetbed - it definitely will shrink when you first wash it.

Hi

I also got mine from ebay.

I bought a 5metre roll for £50 and I got 4 pieces plus out of it and my C&C is 6ft long by almost 4ft wide, so I was very happy with that, although initially expensive it's cheaper in the long run and my piggies love it! x)

I also use towels under the vetbed or microfibre fleece pet towels which I got from the £1 shop as they are so absorbent. :)

Towels - great thanks :) I use newspapers but never have enough - towels for me now as another option :)

Lots of people use regular bathroom towels on their own and others use towels with newspapers. Perhaps add in a layer of newspaper whenever you have some spare.

I use towels at the moment but plan to buy some washable inco pads when I can afford it, on the recommendation of loads of members here. Many people prefer washable pads as a purpose made alternative to towels or newspaper but they are relatively expensive to buy. Inco pads won't get as heavy as soggy towels and apparently lock in liquids far better than anything else, so they should be more effective, lasting longer before they need washing and should also be less smelly.

As long as you wash towels often enough you shouldn't notice any smell at all and they should work fine. I've used them for ages without any problem but just think inco pads will work better as they're designed specifically for that purpose. Just personal preference - I'm sure you'll find a solution that works well for you :)

I cant wait to get some inco pads, seem to be a much easier washing option than towels.
