Hi!:)
I just wanted to know if there are any websites that do good quality hay that's cheap so I can do a bulk buy. I usually get my hay off of vetuk. I buy the pillow wad meadow hay, it's the 1kg bag (I think) and its usually £1.12. But recently I've noticed that it's quite dusty, my piggies haven't to what I can see been affected by it (even Bitzy as she as we found out has a relatively weak respiratory system) but I don't really want to use it just in case it makes them ill. So if you have any websites or sellers on say ebay then that would be great!

@PiggyOwner Is the dust free hay free of mites? I have a feeling my piggies got their mites from hay, so I'd like to prevent them again as much as possible.

I don't think you can guarantee any hay is completely free of mites.

I am happy to buy hay from all 3 the of the sites .

Ok I've found a couple of hays which I might try:) I've found the vetuk own brand which is called petuk meadow hay and its £2.15 for a 2kg bag so I'll be able to get a few and stock up basically, people who have tried the hay say their rabbits and piggies loved it, it's never wasted even with the fussy ones. My piggies aren't fussy when it comes to hay. Also I found this brand called Deans meadow hay, it's £4.69 for a bag that's about a pillow case full from The Hay Experts but I'm not to sure about it. I'm just trying to do a bulk buy and one of these will hopefully be their staple hay and once in a while they get alfalfa king Timothy hay and occasionally their alfalfa hay to. And also the vitakraft vitaverde hays:)

I haven't used any other websites but love hay-for-pets.co.uk I generally get 1 or 2 bags of the 9kg ings hay and store it in the garage.

you get good amounts for your money from places like hay for pets and timothyhay.co.uk. the hayexperts also do good prices of bigger amounts of orchard grass :)

Thank you every one:) I'm going to try all the websites you've mentioned and try all types of hays! I'll start with vetuk and work my way through them all:) thanks everyone! You've been a great help!

Can you feed orchard grass in the same way as other hays (as the main hay and freely available to the piggies as much as they want) or does it have to be restricted? Sorry if that's a stupid question, I'm not really an expert on hay!

I almost exclusively feed Ings hay from hay for pets but I have occasionally fed their other hays and I have tried hay from Dust Free Hay too.

yes you can. it's a grass hay so fine to feed all the time. i mix it with either hay4pets ings or meadow in their litter trays :)

The cheapest I have found is my local farm supply shop. I have an account there as we also have chickens so I go in and get big bales of hay/piggie pellets then straw/layers pellets for the chooks whenever needed!

I LOVE hay from the dustfreehay website. To be honest, I've not tried hay from any other website but I've not felt the need to. I've always wanted my pigs to eat timothy hay and they have tried it in the past and not liked it so I've always had to feed meadow hay. I ordered a few boxes soft meadow hay from dustfreehay and asked them whether it would be possible to try a sample of their timothy hay and they sent me quite a big bag! Andddd my pigs love it! So I ordered full size timothy hay and it's just been delivered now.. Great quality!image.webp

I forgot to add, the price depends how many boxes you buy. The more you buy the cheaper the cost per box. I buy 4 at a time and it works out about £7-8 per box. I'd say the boxes are pretty but but I'm not sure how many kg the hay is, can't find anywhere that says. Does anyone else know?
