i got a new little piggy as bubbles squeaks little friend died at the week/end :'( we think part of the reason he died was due to being bullied by squeak although the vets injection of baytril didnt help..but the thing is i dont want the new pigggy to end up the same way he cant get a minutes peace any time he moves sqeak chases him for ages :-\and even if he is just sitting happily sqeak comes over and teeth chatters at him and the lil one seems so well i dont no but he just stands there awith a sad look on his face as if he is upset that they cant just be friends :'((although maybe i am just imagining this dont think so though) any1 any ideas
did you get your new piggy from a rescue or a petshop? if from a petshop the new piggy should be quarentine for 2-4 weeks. either way you should slowly introduce the two piggies in a neutral terrority like in the run. the cage should have been scrubbed and cleaned so it smells of no one. am so sorry for the lost of bubbles :'( :'( :'( RIP darling run free and popcorn in paradise and be happy. 0 0 0 have you got 2 of everything in the cage? perhaps squeak is more happier on his own if he picked on bubbles and now your new piggy. i would definately seperate them and put in seperate cages and slowly introduce them perhaps at play time. if you only have the one cage perhaps half the cage with a cooling rack and cable ties so they can see and smell each other but can't get at each other. perhaps buy them a teddy each to cuddle up too.
but NEVER put a new guinea pig in with your piggy without quarentining first and slowly introducing them. hoping i have helped. good luck with them, perhpas also squeaks is still mourning the lost of bubbles. sending hugs and cuddles :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: girls send :-* :-* :-* RIP darling bubbles watch over your mummy and squeak and stay in their hearts. 0 0 0
Yeah I think when it comes to introducing, its good for it to be a slow process. Although I can't talk, with Blackberry Pie I seperated the run area with wire and she was soo like not bothered, I let her in, Fergie chattered to her and then they all acted like best buds in an hour!
However with my boy, he had been on his own for like 6 weeks due to his castration and quarentine, so he was scared of my two lovely girlies, it took them a good few days to get on, but they are one happy family now.
I think you have to gauge the submissive/defensive measure of the two you are bonding as to how to go about it - I did my two very differently because they were opposite ends of the scale.
It does seem scary when they chase and chatter, but at the end of they day they will hopefully get on better 0
I personally don't like to see one of my piggies being sad or bullied & i separate them. Tomorrow i will have 5 piggies all living separately, more work for me but they will ALL be happy
Could you split your cage with a divider so squeak gets used to his new little pal?
