I posted a thread a few weeks ago about Landon and Mr. Darcy, my two boars, who are causing quite a ruckus in their C&C cage. It was concluded that one of my sows was in season, and shortly after the chasing died down.

Well, now it's gotton so bad that Mr. Darcy is leaping out of the cage. Yes, literally leaping from the cage. One of my sows, Whiskey, was definitely in season when it started-- but it hasn't stopped and it's been a week and a half.

Is this what you guys mean when you say "falling out"? Because I thought that meant both parties were hostile towards each other, not just one. (In this case, Landon, as he's chasing Mr. Darcy. Mr. Darcy just runs.)

I could post a video on youtube, if that would help you to help me.

It is advisable to keep boars and sows separately. The behaviour you are referring to is not occurring due to your sows being in season. Sows come into season approximately every two and a half weeks, and will remain in season for no longer than forty-eight hours. Therefore, if the behaviour was due to your sows being in season, this behaviour would be exhibited for no more than a forty-eight hour period, two to four times a month. However, the behaviour is occurring over a prolonged period of time, and is simply due to the presence of your sows.

Landon is probably chasing Mr Darcy due to being frisky. However, it could also be due to dominance - Landon knows Mr Darcy is approaching/ entering adolescence. Regardless, you are right in thinking that 'falling out' is when both boars become hostile to one another.

Personally, I would advise that you house your boars elsewhere. Otherwise, when Mr Darcy hits the peak of adolescence, and his hormones take effect, I would not be surprised if your boars do 'fall out'.

Spring seems to have a bad effect on boars, looking at how many threads about boars we are having right now!

I don't know how old Mr.Darcy is is right now, but there is probably some dominance issue in there as well.

Some people on here have said that the CCT (Cambridge Cavy Trust) has started to recommend the use of dop appeasing pheromones (NOT the cat ones; they are harmful). Perhaps you might like to look into that considering your setup?

Whenever my two have a falling out and don't stop with the chasing, their cage is cleaned out and they get a bath together. They hate baths and as well as neutralising them both to smell the same, I think that they feel like it's 'us against the humans'. Seems to work to settle things back down!

Like Wiebke said, it is spring and a funny time of year for boars...I think you just need to ride the storm!
