HI. I'm considering buying the Chartwell but am a little nervous as I can't go to see it in person. Does anyone have it and can tell me whether the lid opens? My current hutch lid opens and it's super useful for catching piggies and for cleaning. Thanks

ive two chartwell feet double hutches, the lid does not lift up.it does have a removeable section to help to get bedding out.they are fairly solid, and ive had mine 4 years.i would suggest you get the cover and hugger it is good especially if the hutch is placed outside.

I'm definitely going to get this one. Just looking for the best price now!

I'm sure you will be pleased with the hutch.mine are 6 feet double hutches !my hutches are from home and roost.:)

I have a 6ft Chartwell double hutch and am pleased with it. You do need the insulated cover and hutch hugger if keeping outside. I got it all from Scratch and Newton

I'm also currently looking at the chartwell 5ft 2 tier as it turns out one of our piggies was pregnant when we bought her! So now need to have a separate hutch for the new boys!

I've read online that the floor and the back panel is meant to be weak in the chartwell? Is that the case? If so has anyone got any tips/guides on reinforcing it?

Thanks!

I have a Chartwell 6' double hutch and it is a lot better quality than my old one. I haven't found the floor or back panel to be weak. I am really happy with mine.

The floor panel is solid. The back is unfortunately just plywood which isn't ideal. However with the hugger and cover it is not exposed to the elements and I have not had any problems with mine which has been going strong for a few years now

They have changed the back then @Lady Kelly cos mine isn't plywood (if I remember rightly) mine is covered with a hutch snuggle and a hugger too.

Thanks all! Betsy where did you get your updated version?

Thanks! Was definitely going to go for the hutch hugger and snuggle too, use them on the current single hutch and their amazing! Looks like scratch and newton are out of stock on the snuggle so will order from home roost which do a bundle Inc snuggle!

How many guineapigs is the 6ft chartwell 2 tier hutch aimed at? Thanks

A 6ft hutch will fit three sows; two sows and a neutered boar; or two boars.
The fact that it is 2 tier does not make it bigger in terms of how many piggies will fit in it. The upstairs level is a bonus space but doesn’t double the square footage of the cage ie a 6ft hutch is 12 sq ft but the upstairs level does not make is 24 sq ft, it’s still only 12.
