Hi Everyone - I took my guinea pig to the animal hospital on Easter because he wasn't eating or pooping for a couple days. They kept him overnight, gave him critical care feedings and hydration. They said he did well. He didn't look or act sick. I picked him up on Monday (4/5/21) and was instructed to feed him 4 times a day with critical care mixture until he starts eating and pooping normally. I was also given 4 medications to give him. I've been doing everything instructed and he has only pooped a couple of pellets since Tuesday and still isn't eating. I am taking him to the vet tomorrow. I am worried. Does anyone have any insight? Thanks, Marie

Hi, as you posted this late UK time I'm bumping this so the experts can get back to you to advise you best😃

Welcome to the forum and I’m sorry to hear your piggy isn’t well. Please have him seen by a knowledgeable vet ASAP.

In a piggy who isn’t eating for themselves, then syringe feeding four times a day isn’t nearly enough. He will need to be fed every couple of hours amounting to at least 60-90ml of syringe feed in a 24 hour period. Switching from the routine weekly weight checks and instead weigh him daily so you can monitor his food intake more closely. Any weight losses, then you will need to increase the amount of syringe feed being given. The lack of poop you are seeing is because he isn’t getting enough food.

What medications were you given?
