hi everyone, was wondering if I could get some help , I've been doing a lot of researching over fleece bedding, I watched a YouTube video but a YouTuber called skinny pigs 1 - she used fleece liners with small fleece pads placed in high traffic areas. She only used one layer of a fleece liner and nothing underneath, whereas everyone else I've read have said about putting different things underneath the fleece. Can you just use a fleece liner ? will that work ?

Not really.
You need some sort of absorbent layer underneath, otherwise the urine will drain through the fleece and crate a puddle.
But you can simply lay an old towel or puppy pads underneath a piece of fleece. The layers don't need to be sewn together.

Great advice from Swissgreys there... :)

I am totally satisfied with newspapers underneath the fleece. They absorb the wee, don't smell at all and can also be reused as they dry very fast.

Without smell? Really?

yes... and consider that my nose is very sensitive. In fact homes with dogs for my nose are smelly... And, moreover, a friend of mine who does not stand the smell of her sister's hamsters came here last day when I had not cleaned up the cage yet and was surprised...
Only wet cotton into their houses have a typical smell because it remains wet. Today I experimented also with putting wet newspapers outside the balcony and now that they are dry they smell of newspapers only again. I could even reuse them tonight for the cage, but I don't care, as I have plenty of flyers and old newspapers at home...:D

Have a try... (use also flyers of supermarkets, if you have tons like me )

Thanks for all that, I might give it a try! Do you use a litter tray area or hay on the blanket?

The cage has fleece in contact with the paper; on the fleece there are the "houses"; inside the houses (where piggies sleep) I put a cushion covered with another little piece of fleece... then, outside the houses there is a corner with hayracks. I find wet spots always in the same points where I am putting some flyers more. Only into a house with no cushion I put some hay and that does smell (if I place my nose near it). The whole cage is made of coroplast, but plastic and towels underneath (which I use only for making a thicker floor) remain clean:

this is the "house" which has some smell in the morning because of the wet hay:

I am reducing the hay into the houses, the pic above is quite old; now piggies have cushions on which I see they don't wee:
