So I've just bit the bullet and ordered some bath mats to try my 2 girls on however I'm still unsure on a few things so just a few questions....

1. Once the bath mats arrive is there anything I need to do with them before putting them in the cage? Do they need to be washed a few times first like fleece?

2. What would you recommend washing them in. As in any specific types of detergent etc?

3. I was going to use old towels underneath the bath mats. Would this be absorbent enough? Or do you guys have any other suggestions/recommendations?

Lastly anything else you think I should know in regards to changing over to bath mats?

Ive purchased a rubber bristle dustpan and brush to make spot cleaning much easier and also a wash bag to put them all in when they need to go in the washing machine. Just want to know if I'm missing anything else worth knowing, thanks 😊

I can only answer the detergent question. Use a non-bio low fragrance one. I use the one from Lidl for mine. Other members use Halo I believe.

I use fleece liners in my cage ie fleece, a layer of absorbent fabric and fleece all sewn together.

I use zorb as the absorbent layer or mattress protectors.

I also use bsth mats on top of the liners to go under their ikea beds. The bath mats need changing every few days.

I have 5 guinea pigs in an 11 x 2 c and c cage.

So bath mats are a good extra but are not very absorbent. A towel under would certainly help.P_20200422_123421.webpP_20200422_122742.webp

Yep I'm definitely thinking of sticking with keeping towels underneath them.
