So it's payday and i'm deciding what cage to buy I just can't make up my mind. I was going to get a ferplast 140 cage but now i'm thinking C&C. I'm I mad? i'm no diy master! My minds spinning with what to do I'd love a ferplast 140 cage as it just seems to be the easier option, also I would have to spend all my time explaining what a C&C cage is to my mum she is so clueless but the cage would cost me £104.95. On the other hand most people on here have a C&C and they look great but i'd have to make the C&C by myself and I just wouldn't know where to begin but then the good thing is it would be cheaper then the ferplast and would mean I don't need to buy a play pen off ebay.

I need to make up my mind today as i'm going to a rescue tomorrow.

I had a normal cage from P@H and hated it because I knew it wasnt big enough, then built a run or rather my step dad did but Lacey escaped all the time so I decided on a C&C, its really easy to put together (considering I did it by myself) so that says a lot that it must be easy, there are so many videos on You Tube to tell you how step by step so you will be fine. Good luck :))

c&c's are dead easy to do, the only bit i found complicated was the correx, but its only because you have to do it the right way, or you did when i had it but it was years ago.

Thanks guys:) I think i'll try and make a C&C. Now all I have to do is find somewhere online that sells grids and correx for cheap.

Thank you guys so much:) I really mean it:(|) I will get a C&C cage kit from her then.
Can you tell me what 4x2 and 5x2 is cm? i'm not the best at maths.

Here is mine just for an idea

The size of a 4x2 C&C cage in centimetres would depend on the size of the grids (I think they can vary a bit).

Mine are about 13.5-14 inches each (I think from memory), so you're looking at a size of around 140cm x 70cm for a 4x2 C&C, or 175cm x 70cm for a 5x2 C&C.

HTH :)

the thing is, whatever you get now you can add to later if you decide you want bigger, they c&c's are very versatile, thats the beauty of them and also they are so easy to clean

Took me 15 minutes to fully clean mine out last night, change fleece and hay loft etc, very quick

Thank you both my head was spinning this morning as I couldn't make my mind up on what to get (i'm always like it!). You've made me alot happier now that I have made a decision:)
15 mins is quick to do a cage clean.
One of the reason as to why I like a C&C is you can always make it bigger where as with a ferplast cage you can't.

No worries, Ive changed mine a few times but I'm happy with it now, I will however be adding to it after christmas just to give them a little extra because I can lol

if your getting 2 boys a 5x2 would be best. bigger is always better if you have the space :)

15mins to clean out.......what am I doing wrong it takes me an hour to clean mine out start to finish, by the time ive washed the correx cleaned the litter tray, brushed down the fleeces and rebuilt the grids and hoovered all the hay strands up.
Am i just super slow??lol

lol no not at all, I have spare fleeces all washed and ready to go so I take out the dirty ones, clean the correx with spray and sweep of course then put everything back in. The hay loft has a shallow cat litter tray in so the hay is in that, thay just gets thrown away and replaced.

Their cozy's etc all need washing and they dont have spares of those but they have everything else in there whilst they are being washed.

Haha. Not super slow! I expect you just do it differently. :) I dont hoover at the same time i clean out. I lift of my fleece cage liner, loosely shake all the poos into the corex tray, then (using my hands, which are washed after ofc) I fold up all the pampers baby changing mats (like puppy pads) and any poos /hay that didnt land on them is scooped up into my piggy bin. I then go around the corex tray with a baby wipe (or a few) Then i lay the new baby changing mats, and the new cage liner. Then i sit and wipe the litter trays down with baby wipes

However, once a week (not at cleanout time) i go and wash the litter trays in hot soapy water. Every 2 months i also remove the piggies and bits completly from my room, (outside or in my sisters room in a paddling pool) And spray the cage with a special disinfectant where they cant return for like an hour. Its a special pet one. johnsons anti lice n mites or something.

I also dont shake out the old cageliner propperly untill I'm ready to wash it. I ususaly clean the piggies out right before bed when its dark, then the next morning i give it a good shake in the garden, pop all their stuff in a duvet cover then wash it. :)

I then hoover round the cage for exess hay etc every tuesday and friday. :)

A normal clean out takes me about 20 minutes however i tend to be doing something or other cleaning for them every day. :)

HTH

No me too! :red

It takes me an hour! Mine is a rather strange shape though rolleyes I poop scoop, then hoover the fleece, then remove everything, fleece, mattress topper, towels & newspapers, then spray & wipe the correx, dry the correx, put clean papers in, then clean towels, then clean mattress topper, then a clean fleece liner that I have to put over the correx & tuck underneath, wash all the trays, food bowls etc (which get washed every day normally) fill with food, put papers & carefresh in the litter trays, refill the hay baskets, put all their furniture back in then I went to work rolleyes

I am home now & knackered lol :))

I've decided to make my own C&C as it would take over two weeks to get a C&C cage kit which would be too long. I've just bought some correx from the one stop plastics shop and some white grids from amazon. Wish me luck!

I'm really nosey why you have to rebuild the grids? :)

Well the connectors have loosened now they are 2 years old so they all fall apart when i try to lift the cage. Also I put puppy pads down and then fleece and then the grids on top that way they cant chew the edges of the fleece and the labels, which is my Theos favourite hobby.
In honesty I only clean out every one or two weeks, but the litter trays are changed daily and I poop scoop every couple of days, I find they lie in the litter trays constantly so most of the pee and poop is in there. So when I do I take the grids out and scrub down with a cloth and then dry hoover etc.
I hoover everyday, everytime I change the litter tray hay goes everywhere lol think I'm missing some kind of technique lol.

Perhaps you could try cable ties? That might atleast mean it doesnt need putting back together every time. :D

Hi

I made a C&C cage and trust me I am useless and making things!

I ordered the cubes off of ebay and they were £29. The correx came from a local signwriters and cost me £12 so an awful lot cheaper than buying a cage.

I made a 2x4 cage with a 2x1 hayloft. The correx was tricky to start with but once you cut and fold it a couple of times its easy. I just made sure I measured everything twice and used a pencil to mark the cutting and folding lines. I found it easier to score the correx freehand and I practiced on an off cut.

I used cable ties to secure the grids on the hayloft and on some on most of the other grids and then left the bottom end so it was just clipped into the connectors (this means I can just swing open the bottom end to pull the tray out to clean it). It takes me ten minutes to clean it all out!

I love my C&C cage and the openess of it works brilliantly for me.

Give it a go :)
