Change in Rufus' Behaviour...

It's been almost 2 weeks since Ron passed but it's only now that Rufus is acting different.

I had him out earlier and he kept running over to where Ron's cage used to sit and was sitting staring and wheeking at the spot he then ran back and forth to the spot and then went back into his cage. Usually I have to tempt him back in with cucumber!

When I closed the cage he started biting the bars and making a strange almost whimpering noise. I took him out and put him on my bed with me, he kept sniffing the air and then rubbing his nose on the bed. I gave him some cuddles and he seemed to quieten down but now he's back in his cage he's biting the bars again.

Is this him grieving?

I'm going to Aberdeen in a few weeks so when I get back, I'm going to see about boar dating at the lanarkshire rescue place and paws in edinburgh. Feel so sorry for him

Good idea to get him a friend. Shame you cannot do it now. Poor baby seems lonely.

Best to wait till you get back from your trip though in case theres any bonding issues eh? Last thing you want is to stress Rufus out anymore with the introduction of a new mate, and mummy not being around for comfort.

Have you given him a teddy to cuddle up with in the meantime?

I don't think it'd be fair to take in a rescue piggy when I'm going away :S maybe I'll do it sooner, will make enquiries tomorrow.

I've put in a wee thing for him but it's not the same. I wish I could sit up with him all night but I don't think it's me he wants

You are right. He wants another piggy. Well as soon as you get back you will sort that out for him and hopefully he will have a new friend to play with.

Awww bless his cotton socks! poor little mite, just give him as many cuddles as you can and try to think in a few weeks he will hopefully have a new friend. It's the right thing to wait until you're back as you'll need to keep a careful eye out at the beginning. Big hugs to you and Rufus x
