My two girls are now about 11 weeks old. To say they are different would be the understatement of the year!

Phoebe will wheek at anybody who passes (including the dog) asking for food and she will run towards you and climb up the bars of the cage trying to get closer. She will let you stroke her in the cage without running away and will even approach my hand as I am putting down the food bowl!

Monica who is boss pig seems to be going backwards re the handling aspect. She runs away when I approach the cage, if Phoebe has managed to get food from anyone of us (we are putty in her piggy feet) Monica will come for the food but if I try to stroke her will run back downstairs, leaving Phoebe happily stuffing her face!

Phoebe wheeks for England and in fact my husband says she sounds more like a bird tweeting than a guinea pig! Whereas Monica relies on Phoebe to beg and doesn't make a sound!

How things have changed in this household as it was Monica who was the bold one initially.

I just wish that Monica was not so shy, still I know the key word is patience, patience and yet more patience!

It is very difficult when you have one that clearly loves everyone including the dog, you tend to make more fuss of her because she asks for it!

Yes, it can be quite frustrating, can't it?

Perhaps, if you can make some special time with a treat for Monica? Guinea pigs can be very different, and Phoebe will probably always be more a "household" pig than Monica.

Good luck! And if you find a big supply of patience at half price, could you give me a tip, please?

LOL Vicky, yes it is very frustrating eh? I just don't understand her, she has been really quite bold and now seems to be going backwards! I have tried having her out on her own but Phoebe shouts for her and gets quite agitated, if I have Phoebe out on her own Monica doesn't care tuppence!

If I find patience half price anywhere I will send you some :)p

Mine are the same. Treacle wheeks like mad when I go into kitchen and runs up to my hand for food whereas Truffles stays in her bed and waits for me to go before coming out for food. On the other hand though, Truffles is the one who prefers to be handled over Treacle. I am just getting to know Cookie and Muffin as I only picked them up today but so far Cookie will be picked up ok and will happily sit and have cuddles but Muffin is a bit more skittish ;)

Monica still very shy despite my very best attempts! Will carry on being patient but may have to accept that she will always be the shy one!
