I was going to put this in the cold weather thread, but it felt more appropriate as a separate post - am I better off with the heating on lower (ie, 18°) for longer, or higher (20°) for shorter? Because I've had it at 20° for 3-4 hours, it clicked off a couple of hours ago, and already we're at 15° and dropping fast. The goblins won't get out of bed, there's nothing wrong with them, they're just too cold to be comfortable and I can't say I blame them. I'd sleep in an icebox if I could though, but I'm weird, and them being warm enough is more important lol.

I hate this. It can't be sustainable for 3 months. But it's the weekend and I can email people come Monday. I just need them to not freeze to death in the meantime.

That's what I was thinking, I'll adjust the thermostat when I'm next downstairs.

When I was a student we did a full study of gas consumption in our house as we argued over the bills. And we found that having the heating on lower for longer was the best in terms of gas consumption and comfort. So in our student house we kept the heating thermostat at 16/17. We all acclimatised to it and the bills were reasonable. This prolonged cold snap is most unwelcome.

This house has always been a pain to heat but I don't ever remember it being this bad before, and it feels like the heating's never off because if it is off for more than an hour or two we're at 14/15°, heck it was 14.5° when I woke up this morning. Roll on getting actual decent windows. And door. And boiler. But mostly the windows.

I feel your pain. This house is also a very cold house. But we can only do what we can. I’ve got blankets draped over the girls’ cage to try to keep some heat in for them at night, extra hay & extra houses stuffed with hay.

I've got them in the biggest fleecy beds I have in the corner of the cage next to the radiator and a Snugglesafe under more. Beyond that all I can do is keep the house as warm as possible, but I don't blame them for not wanting to leave their beds. I went in a bit ago, temp was up at 16.5° and they were actually out and about in the cage. Poor sods.

They’ll cope fine. It won’t last forever.
