Hey all,
I haven't posted on the forum before so I guess I should start with an easy post about my piggies behaviour.
I have rescued two boars, one is suspected to be at least 1 year old (Argo) and the other is now about 4 months old (Salem). They get along alright but still squabble a lot as Salem is starting to challenge Argo's dominance. Argo hogs the food so I have to spread it out over the cage or Salem won't be allowed to eat until Argo goes away. Basically they display typical boar dominance behaviour and have face-offs all the time. Once in the first few weeks after I adopted them both together I found a bite on Argo, he must have pushed Salem too far and got himself a war-wound. After that incident they only got worse and really disliked being near each other, then Salem started trying to cuddle with Argo all the time and Argo would nip at him. They sleep in separate beds, Argo dominates the fabric house and I made up a cuddle-cup cuddle sack for Salem to sleep in that he loves but will only sleep in when it's placed next to Argo's house. I figured this out after I attempted to stop them fighting by putting their beds on separate ends of the cage (which is huge by the way its 2.5ft x 5 ft) and Salem started sleeping on the floor next to Argo's house instead of in his bed. I thought it was both adorable and sad.
The great part of this story is that the past couple of nights I found Argo and Salem curled up together in Argo's house.. I was so very shocked at first and now I am so happy, it looks like they have made up with each other and Argo has forgiven Salem for the biting. Now they are thick as thieves.
Argo is a very quiet and cautious but loves to cuddle during lap time and gets relaxed and stretched out, he even licks me like a puppy sometimes. Salem is very active, restless, vocal and is also a nibbler but if you can finally settle him down in your lap you stroke his side and he will kick both his legs out sideways and then curl into a ball, close his eyes and fall asleep. Salem is the only one who has slept with his eyes closed during lap time.
I am glad they have made up and now cuddle together but now I am a little jealous that they won't want to cuddle me anymore! no joke.. Salem used to walk right up to me in his cage and put his head under my hand to get scratches but now he runs away from me :/
The good comes with the bad I guess.
