Some people might know that I've been struggling a bit lately with my animals mainly cats and fleas,

Koda my male cat has been behaving really badly lately which I think is because he's stressed about the fleas, he's allergic to them biting him,
So he's been weeing in awful places,
First on the sofa
Which was horrible to try to get out
Then he weed on the Hob
Which I was very angry about, for obvious reasons.

Lately he's taken to just weeing on the floor in the hall way,
So this morning as I'm leaving I see he's weed on my boyfriends work boots, but I'm in a rush so I call to my boyfriend who's not up yet and say he's weed on your shoes but I gotta go right now, thinking he will clean it up before he leaves for work,

Well I just got home and he didnt clean it up,
But I own my own book store and I get the odd rare book delivered to the house for customers, today I got a book delivered but because my boyfriend didn't mob up the wee, this book is now covered in pee
So I'm very angry.

Obviously I can't give my customer this book which is going to cost me money, time ect.

I'm very stressed right now....

Oh dear, that isn't very much fun for you:(Is there anything else stressing your cat? Changes you have made in the house or in your routine? Or new cats moving next door or anything? It very much seems as if something is bothering him. Hallways are siginficant places to cats as they contain a door to the outside world. Even if your cat doesn't use the front door himself it is an important boundary to his territory. At times of stress it becomes more important for cats to let others know what is their territory. Weeing near the boundaries, to them, is a very good way of doing this.

My nervous cat, Gingerbread, took to doing this too and spraying on the bookcase by the front door, so I started feeding them there instead and as cats don't wee where they eat there has been no more weeing in the hallway since:)

There is also a possibiltey he may have cystisis (which can be caused by stress) so has an urgency to wee without getting to a litter tray first. If this is the case he needs to see a vet urgently as there is a risk in male cats of it progressing to a blocked bladder. Watch out for small, frequent wees

Try not to tell him off as he wont understand and it will only increase his stress level.

Suprisingly where he weed is very close to the food bowls :/

I don't tell him off when I find it because normally i don't find it for possibly hours after he's done it,
So he wouldn't know what he's being told off for anyway :/

I don't think it's that he's weeing before he gets to the tray because I've watched him do it before and he will walk around quite a bit, go to the tray, walk away, walk around then wee :/

No new animals or house moves or new cats next door at all,
So I'm not sure what's made me feel bad,

He was poorly recently, he got a bad stomach and couldn't keep any food down that was a few months ago now, before this started but not right before there was a gap of about a month,

He won't sit on the chair or on anything soft like that, It's window sills and radiators, when I sit him down with me to comb him with the flea comb he gets very stressed and runs away at every opportunity,
And scratches me up in the process,

In the end I got a lawn mover and gave him the box so he has somewhere that's his to hide and he does go in a lot but given the opportunity he will sit on the kitchen windowsill but that's not ideal because of him weeing on appliences so I had to close the door and that's when I gave him the box :/

It makes me think he's not feeling well and it's making him behave like this, there's nothing medically wrong other than the flea problem :/
I've been spraying the floor with flea spray and they're up to date with the treatment :/

Is he an indoor cat? Cats are very sensitive to types of litter, location of litter tray, anything new and even wildlife being near the house.

Cats are also prone to urinary infections so that's a big possibility. How old is he? There's a great cat litter called Nullodor who do a mature cat litter which changes colour if there is any kind of infection which is amazing. It's also geared to absorb larger amounts of wee which is great.

If it is urinary then cat fountains are fab to help get more water in them. Also it's worth looking at food if it's a urine problem, I'm currently doing some training on nutrition etc and it's amazing the difference foods have on the body and behaviour.

If it's a stress thing then Feliway might be an idea to try, it works on pheromones and it's a calming diffuser or spray. It works wonders :)

I can be a bit of a cat need so sorry for the essay, just a bit passionate about cats :))

Essays are great I love essays :)
He is an indoor cat at the moment he used to be indoor and outdoor whenever he wanted to but for some reason lately he hasn't been interested in going outside even when the door is wide open for hours and we are outside.

He has wood pellet litter and has Been on it for about 6 months in the same area since the beginning,

I've just been given a plug in thing that is suppose to help cats who are stressed by my mum she dropped it over about an hour ago! She's been kept up to date with his behaviour,
She offered to take him back to her house till it gets better but I said I thought that would make him more stressed and she also had a large energetic dog which wouldn't be ideal.

He's about 7 and a half years old now which I think is about the age of senior cat!
So he's getting older, he has always fluctuated in weight but hes lost weight which he's slowly putting back on,
So far the vet has said he is stressed which is causing all the issue and also the flea infestation doesn't help,

I spray with flea spray every couple of day and hoover daily to get them up but they're still a nightmare!

Yes fleas are a nightmare! It's great that you're trying calming stuff :)

Best thing to do is create a proper little environment for him inside, like a grass tray and 2 litter trays in very quiet and private places. Perhaps in an area that he's often peeing now, males in particular may mark a certain area so a litter tray there may help. Does he like the litter?

What sort of food does he have? As my cat got to 7 she started to have a load of issues (weight loss, sickness & hair loss) which the vets couldn't cure. Since doing this training I started her on a few different grain free foods and now she's a different cat, totally cured :) As they get older they find it more difficult to digest things they wouldn't normally encounter such as wheat, rice etc. It basically causes discomfort and inflammation of their gut, bowels and in some cases bladder too. In my cats case it also came out in allergy symptoms with the hair loss & sickness (due to inflammation).

My cat is 10 now so I understand the joys of an older cat :D

If the plug in is cat appeasing pheromones then it could really help. I swore by it for my late dog who was beyond terrified of fireworks, a few weeks of the plug in and she slept through bonfire night!
The pheromones mimic the calming ones given off by mother cats,
Good luck!

He has wood pellet litter and has Been on it for about 6 months in the same area since the beginning,
Some cats are not so keen on the wood chip as they get older as it is hard on their paws. I used to use it for my two boys but now they are 15 I use something softer.

Perhaps something has frightened him when he has been out and about making him not want to leave the house anymore, usually in summer they like to be outside more.

I think you cat might need one of them anxiety things out of pets at home because it sounds like your cats stressed ! Etc and I think it might help !

I agree with @Pound Shilling & Pig , he's been frightened by something outside. Possibly a new cat has moved into his territory and is bullying him. I recommend Vicky Halls books on cat behaviour they are very insightful and also at times amusing.Poor puss is very stressed.

my cat started peeing next to her food,it is because we have new cats in the area, ive placed cat litter trays near the places she is marking, this has worked well.along with feliway diffuser.i have a hooded litter tray and bed that is covered and this has resolved the stress, hope your cat feels calm soon.

My Willow only wees outside the tray when his urinary issues flare up, first it was cystitis but at the start of the year he had a bad time with urinary crystals! He was in and out of his tray looking rather desperate to find somewhere, anywhere, to pee but he wasnt able to pee at all! Luckily he wasnt blocked up as that can be rather serious, but his bladder had to be flushed of lots of large crystals, blood and pus :( it wasn't nice for him or my bank balance! It might be worth popping down to your vets and asking if they would do a test on his urine to see whats happening, if hes not had one already. It only costs about £20 and it gives me peace of mind getting them done every once in a while even though he's been put on special urinary food.

Willow is also an indoor cat, he hates the other cats that walk through the garden, this seems to be quite a trigger for his stress levels. Ive got him lots of puzzle toys, kongs, water fountains to dilute his urine too which are a nice distraction for him and encourage him to drink more.

Hope hes sfeeling better soon, cat urine isnt the nicest of things to have all over the place x

Okay so my partner was having a cigarette outside and Koda made a run for it when he opened the door, baring in mind this was at 3am
So I'm not sure if someone has scared him in the garden after all
Wouldn't he have not wanted to go out at all? He ran out, peed then came back in?
So maybe it's the litter box?

He's had lots of tests at the vets but I suppose I could get a second opinion :/

I might have a move around in the hall way to get his litter tray closer to the door,

Did anyone else watch that show My Cat From Hell with Jackson Galaxy?
I've been watching and it's pretty interesting!

Yes it's a great show! I would try a second litter tray in a quiet area (hallways are busy places) and try a new litter. I would recommend Nullodor mature (it's baked silica, you only change it about once a month and it changes colour when urine infections are present etc), it's much softer on the feet and odour free. You could try an enclosed litter box if it could be a privacy issue, cats are very different to dogs as they much prefer privacy and quiet places.

Sounds like you certainly have your hands full. I hope he calms soon!

To be fair our hall way is quite quiet,
We don't move around much, spend most of our time in the living room and kitchen so where the litter trays are is around the corner from all the activity :/
But ill have a look,
I think in the living room or kitchen would be busier to put the tray,
And the other option is the bedroom but I wouldn't trust him in there to not wee on the bed, he's done it before and it was pretty bad :/
Those are the only rooms in the house apart from the animal room, it's a bungelow so so upper floor just one level.

I'll have a look at a different litter
Where can I pick up the one you suggested?
At P@H or would it be online?

We've tried an enclosed litter tray before and he gets confused and won't go in it :/
But that was a while ago so I could try again :)

Sounds like you certainly have your hands full. I hope he calms soon!
Yes we do!
It's been pretty bad for about a 7 months now, various problems with him but we are sorting it out,
Before I was using bob martin spot on because it was the only one I could get at the shops readily but I looked it up and saw some horror stories of it poisioning cats!
After that I binned it all and got some from the pharmacy which is better

I wonder if having bad spot on for half a year caused him to get poorly in the first place,
He's been on a good one now for a month
So hopefully it's all getting out of his system now :/ :/

I don't know if P@H sell it (I never go in there lol) but probably online? I think zooplus might sell it. I used to get it from my local Pets Corner but there aren't loads of them around so it might be better to get it online :)
