Cat allergic to guinea pigs?

We took our cat and two guinea pigs to the vets. The vet says the cat has an allergy to the guinea pigs or hay. Is this possible? and has anyone had any experiences with it? really not sure what to do now as the cat is having difficulty breathing and lots of other problems from the guinea pigs. Guinea pigs are outside but are still apparently causing issues for the cat. Dont know what to do

I guess it's possible (humans can certainly be allergic to hay and/or guinea pig dander), but if the cat is indoors and the pigs are outdoors it seems like there wouldn't be a lot of cross-contamination. You could try throwing on a smock or something else to cover your clothing while handling the guinea pigs and then take it off and leave it outside the house so you are not bringing fur/dander/hay into the house after you interact with the pigs to see if that makes a difference.
