Hello all,

My two boars have been living together for around two weeks now. They’ve settled down a lot but the journey to this point has been a little rocky between them and I’m still seeing some aggressive behaviours fairly regularly.

I have registered at a vet specialising in GPs and want to take both boys for a check up as soon as lockdown is lifted. My question is : do I take the boys in the same carrier ? I don’t want them to be scared alone and don’t want any disruption to their fragile bond, but equally I fear a small space might set off aggressive behaviour!
Should I look to buy two carriers and try my best to keep the carriers next to each other as I travel?

many thanks!
F

It’s unlikely you are seeing aggressive behaviour, you are seeing dominance and that is nothing to worry about. If it was aggressive, it would be very clear that there was a problem between them.

Take them in one carrier. With boars, don’t separate them, always keep them together including when travelling. They will be absolutely fine in the same carrier.
I only have one carrier and even if it is only one of them who needs to see the vet, they both go together

Thanks for the response - they’ll go together then and I’ll be happier knowing they have each other for comfort! Yes you’re right - I mean dominant behaviours (rumble strutting, teeth chattering much less but sometimes, nose lifting)! Thanks to this forum as always - a big help.

Just wondered if you have any particular concerns about their health? If not and you just want a vet check more for your peace of mind you can always delay going for a little longer to give them more time to strengthen their bond if you are worried.

No particular concerns as such and I think it’s more for me than for them (as I’m the worried type!) ! As they are fairly new I just wanted to make sure they were as healthy as could be. I might have to sit tight and wait for them to settle a bit :) thanks !
