For those of you who have trios, what carrier do you use? I'm currently using this one but has a maximum weight of 5kg.

Now none of my pigs are 'fully grown' yet and my heaviest pig is sitting quite comfortably at 1.1kg at the moment. Now as some pigs can get to 1.5kg, and the fact that there would be 3 in there that could be 4.5kg worth of pig in the carrier and I worry that it may not take the weight especially when there's bedding a hide and water bottle attached.

I have a trio too and sometimes wonder if I should put them in 2 carriers when we travel but don’t like to separate them.

Have you thought about using a luggage strap to fasten around the carrier?

No I hadn't. But then what about the handle? Admittedly even with one in there I hold the bottom or try and carry it as close to the ground as possible so if anything snaps or gives it's not a big drop.

I'm probably over thinking all this if I'm honest. I don't plan going far with them anyway, only the vets which is 5 mins away and if it's just for a check up I just put a pee pad and snuggle sack in there.

I'm also the sort of person who panics when I see a cat or small dog in these carriers and the person is just holding it by the handle casually. I'm like, ' the floor could give out', 'that handle could snap', if it's one where theres a door on top, 'the lock could break and the animal could fall out'. 😅

I have 4 pigs and use an extra large cat carrier as I like them to travel together. I got it from the range https://www.therange.co.uk/pets/cats/cat-carriers/lazy-bones-skudo-standard-pet-carrier#420819 I only really use it to go to the vets as when we travel further, I use a small Zoozone travel cage https://www.amazon.co.uk/Zoozone-62007-Habitat-Medium-Pink/dp/B002US4CBI/ref=sr_1_3?adgrpid=1179776875782455&hvadid=73736253890073&hvbmt=be&hvdev=c&hvlocphy=4918&hvnetw=o&hvqmt=e&hvtargid=kwd-73736192705822:loc-188&hydadcr=4124_1819928&keywords=zoozone+2&qid=1644784780&sr=8-3 Just to add that the cage is definitely NOT suitable as a permanent home, it's merely used for travel only. I got it from a charity shop

I know it's not exactly the same, but I have this same issue with one of my sewing machines. The handle feels flimsier than any plastic carrier handle has to me, but the machine weighs an absolute tonne, and I have to remind myself the machine is older than I am. If the handle was going to break carrying it, it would've done already.

If you're worrying about the handle breaking even if you've got a strap round the body of the carrier, is it worth trying to loop it through the handle too? My head has a vision of how this works and I don't know quite how to explain it properly, but it might give you that extra piece of mind that you have a handle on the carrier that isn't just the plastic one. You know, if you could read minds and know what my brain was talking about.

I just use a large cat carrier for my three. Mine have a combined weight of less than 3kg though.
Mine probably won't get to 4.5kg total weight but it's more as a 'just in case'.

My one trio has a combined weight of 3kg and they're all under 18 months. One isn't even a year yet so still has some growing to do.

My trio to be are all under 12 months also and so far have a combined weight of around 2.5kg.

If the combined weight stays below 4kg I'll be ok.

Although I only have 2 pigs, Marigold equals up to another small pig🤣 I have a large carrier for the 2 of them, but they throw the bedding ALL over the seat 🤦‍♀️ so I started using a large amazon box filled with bedding, hay, and a large hidey. It works very well and they don't get as scared.
