I'm taking Cookie to Hazelcroft rescue for bonding. Right now I have a cat carrier like this:

It was fine for two pigs. However, Cookie is going to meet three gorgeous ladies and I feel like that carrier won't be big enough for four pigs (and their egos), if the bonding is successful. What would be a recommended size for four pigs? Or do I get a second small one and split them into pairs on long journeys? I've read the guide and it says that I do want carriers and not a small pet cage.

I have to travel about an hour to the rescue - could I separate Cookie on the journey back without disrupting the bonding? Would it be more disruptive to the new bond to suddenly shove them in a small box (even if bigger than the carrier I currently have)?

Some rescues like you to separate newly bonded piggies for the journey home. This can depend on how long they have been together during bonding, and on the individual circumstances/characters of the bond. It would be best to ask the rescue before you purchase a new carrier what their preferences are.
It is possible to buy bigger cat carriers similar to the ones you picture or even a small dog carrier. I would avoid plastic fronts like those though as some guinea pigs can easily chew through it (I have had experience of this Bertie I'm looking at you!), the metal grids cost very little more but are safer.

Edited to say Good Luck! I hope the bonding goes well and Cookie comes home with 3 lovely wives. Those girls will be so fortunate to have such a caring home with you and Cookie.

I have the furplast atlas open carrier. I find the open top is really helpful with four pigs as while I am loading them all in or out I can leave the top open without anyone escaping.

My rescue wanted them to travel home together as they believed that helped them to bond, but they had two hours together at the rescue before the journey home.

Good luck to you and Cookie I hope the bonding all goes well!

Thanks for the help! I found a ferplast atlas in my local pets at home and it looks a good size. I'll see what the rescue says tonight... He's going to be there for a few days so I can sort something.

I told him this morning he's going to see some ladies and he said plip plip and had a little zoomie.

Exciting times. Good luck. I hope cookie comes home with 3 new ladies :D

When I had four guinea pigs, I used to have a small cage for them to travel in in the car especially for longer journeys and a large cat carrier for shorter journeys to the vets which was only a 10 minute journey x

In that case I think they will want them to travel together, it's usually speed dating where they need to travel separately and be introduced again at home in neutral territory.
Fingers and paws crossed here for the bonding.

I spoke to Sarah at the rescue and she said she might have something that had been handed in that would be suitable, which would be ideal.

Cookie is spending a couple of days settling in and meeting the new ladies through the bars, and they should get introduced tomorrow lunchtime. I'm on the edge of my seat...
