Hi everyone! I was wondering what do you guys think on carob - it is a mediterranean tree that has edible legumes. We've been on some small island on vacation, and those trees were everywhere, so we picked up few kilos of legumes :). It has many appliances in a healthy diet (for example, as a healthier substitute for cocoa), because of its nutritional quality.

Anyway, I tried giving it to guinea pigs, and they fell in love at first sniff! However, I am not eager to experiment further by giving them too much, so I only gave them a few nibbles, until I am sure that it is ok for them.

For all of you that are not sure what am I talking about :), here is the picture:

Guinea pigs should not have anything from the legume family. They must not eat beans or peas. I would not give it again. I would love to try them myself though!

I didn't give them beans, but the husk. Carob beans are really tough, I almost broke a tooth when taking a bite :)
piggyfan, I can send you some via post mail if you want to chew! :-)
