I have fleece were my boys sleep, but the rest of the cage is newspaper bedding. I was wondering if instead of newspaper I could use CareFresh. How often would i need to change it? And I just spot clean the soiled spots daily? Will it stick to fleece? If it does, does it come of easily? Can you get megazorb in the US? If you can, is it a good bedding? If you can't, is there something like it? I'm done with newspaper by itself. Do I need a layer of newspaper under bedding?

I used Carefresh in my piggies' litter trays, it works well, absorbs wee & doesn't smell. You could spot clean the very wet bits to make it last longer. I used the natural one. It is expensive over here though :(

It is definatly something you can try out and to be honest I think it may be a matter of giving it ago and seeing what you think and how well it works for you. I used Carefresh in a 120cm cage with two female Guinea pigs and it would start to smell on the 6th/ 7th day if I remember right- so it would probably be around 5-7 days that it needs to be changed at least but this is something that depends on a couple of bits (cage size, how smelly your boys are, how tolerant you are of piggie smell) so would be more trial and error to pick a time slot that suits you. Definatly spot clean the soiled areas daily, mine tended to keep to certain areas so this was relatively easy and meant the cage was kept a lot nicer before clean out day. I never used fleece with Carefresh so can't really answer the next question but I can't imagine it would be hard to get it off if they did stick to fleece as they do normally keep as large pieces which would be easy enough to pull off.

I'm not sure about Megazorb in the US but I'm sure if you search around online shops/ ask some people you'd be able to find it or something similar- I have a feeling I've read about a paper based bedding in the US but I could be making it up lol. Not used Megazorb personally but I have heard good things about it and is probably the bedding I'd try out first if I decided to go back to bedding. Personally I'd say yes to a layer of newspaper under, for one it did seem to soak up the pee that the Carefresh hadn't and for two it made cleaning the cage out a matter of rolling up each sheet of newspaper and then picking up any loose bits of Carfresh that had escaped- much easier than getting the Carefresh out individually.

Go for which ever Carefresh you like really- until recently we've only had the original type over here so that's what I used but the natural sounds fine. Only thing is I think I've heard some people have had trouble with the colored varieties so possibly avoid these. And finally mixing it with something else would be a matter of trial and error- if you find some fault in using Carefresh alone then mixing it with something else would be a good idea but if you find it's fine on it's own then I'd just stick to using it alone. I think if I was to use Carefresh again I'd mix it with something cheaper as the prices are killer over here (main reason I stopped using it) though I think that's in part because they have to be imported from the states so the price may not be as bad for you. Give it a try alone and if you feel it's lacking or the price is too much compared to how much you are using try mixing it with something else and see how that goes :).

Carefresh is quite expensive. If you can afford it, go for it.

Have you consider using fleece in the whole cage and just Carefresh in the feeding area?

I would go broke if I use Carefresh in the whole cage. I have 2 cages about the size of 2x7 c&c, the feeding area is 1x2. I use wood pellets in the feeding area and the rest is fleece.

Paper-based pellets also work well. I've used the one called Yesterday's News.

I am SO happy! I have found a recipe for CareFresh made from newspaper! I will make another thread on this!
