Not actually piggie related, however Benson, my hamster, his pee is really bad smelling lately, much more so than my piggies, so yeah. Thought this would be the better place to ask!

He used to be on woodshavings. But a month or so ago, he was stinking the whole place out after going back in his cage after just 1 hour! I changed him to carefresh, and I found that was holding the smell so much better, however, I don't really want to pay that amount for the bedding.

Is Megazorb as good as Carefresh when it comes to holding smells?

I'd be interested in the answer to this aswell!

Never used carefresh, but we love megazorb, our snakes are on it (all our animals are), and before we moved them onto megazorb they really stunk our living room out when they pooped, but you hardly notice the smell with them being on megazorb. Megazorb gets a massive thumbs up from me.

i would say that megazorb hold smells better, have used carefresh before on a pair of gerbils as one had an allergy to shavings and they would need cleaning out sooner than when they were on shavings, on the megazorb they get a complete clean out monthly and there are no smells, i now use it on all my animals

What type of hamster is it?

A sudden change in smell could indicate diabetes , this is most common in petstore russians, campbells and chinese hamsters.

Megazorb is great, for my roborovski he only needs cleaning fully once monthly on the stuff , syrians and russians last 2 weeks and the chinese lasts about 3 weeks.

I've tried both types of bedding recently. On holding the smell, both are good. I personally just don't like the smell of Carefresh. On price Megazorb is far more cost effective. On looks, Megazorb is a nicer colour, size and texture. I couldn't see the guineas poos in the Carefresh, so couldn't monitor their health or find the poos to spot clean well.

Megazorb definitely gets my vote!:))

The Megazorb I bought stank before it was even in the cage. Awful stuff imo.

I found Aubiose to be good with smells.

I went ahead and ordered some as I need some within the next few weeks - can't stand running low on anything!

Everyone has their differences when it comes to smells - I personally haven't noticed any smell with carefresh!

And this hamster, he is a syrian, just shy of 3 years old. Very healthy after lots of very detailed health checks! I blame the smelliness on the fact that all old men smell! :(|)

Shall throw in a recent picture of the little stinker!
