I recently bought carefresh natural bedding for my piggies, as I heard carefresh was a safe brand, but just wanted to check your thoughs on it as well. Does anyone know if it is completely safe, or if some pigs can have any allergies to it?

Hi there, our Guinea Pigs really liked it. It doesn't get in their eyes like sawdust does and also doesn't stick to their hair as well as being soft and easy for them to burrow in.

Carefresh is perfectly safe to use but rather expensive. I've never heard of allergies arising from paper bedding.

Thank you all so much! We have gotten it but does anyone know any safe, cheap alternatives for guineapigs? Like you all said, it is very costly haha

Fleece is a very popular option. Basically, you take an absorbent material like a towel and place some fleece on top of it. The fleece should be washed several times before use so it wicks away urine.

Other than that, Aubiose is a great option, and vetbed is pretty common too. Fitch is also good but I’ve heard it’s been having some batch issues recently. I believe you can also find Kaytee Clean and Cosy in the UK but that’s only slightly better on the wallet than Carefresh.

I switched from Carefresh to Megazorb because in the end I was lazy, the Megazorb came in bigger bags and the Carefresh was hard to get ahold of for a while. Megazorb's not for everyone though, the smell can put people off (it didn't bother me, mind).

Ha, I'm switching from wood pellets to Carefresh because it's cheaper than the other option my local pet store has (back2nature) and "only" 1.5 times the price of the pellets (£10.50 for 30L as opposed to £6.99 for 30L)

Decided after a few uses to find a more cheaper option. We are now getting the guineadad fleece bedding. Thanks for all the advice!
