So, I made a cardboard hidey-hole for my guinea pig out of package I was shipped, but I found a few places where it says corrugated cardboard is a bad idea to have in their cages. Is this accurate? The silly girl is absolutely in love with her cardboard box and was making happy squeaks when I put it back in her cage (to move her to her pen while I relocated the cage, its the only one I have with a bottom), I felt so bad taking it away, especially as she's usually more quiet.

The only single layer cardboard things I've seen all have ink, and I thought you had to be careful and that some inks are toxic?

I'd like to know myself about corrugated cardboard as I've always used it for their hideys and never had a problem.

All our piggies get a selection of cardboard boxes, they love them. We also never have had any problems with them and our piggies destroy them.

I did read somewhere that cardboard is ok but only if both sides are the natural stuff, not the coloured boxes, but I don't know how true that is & mine love chewing any cardboard & haven't come to any harm :)

As far as I know, if it's brown it's all good. If there's colour then the dye could be bad for little piggy.
Mine go mental for anything cardboard. I've stopped buying them toys and just give them a couple of boxes.

Thanks everyone, its good to hear that it should be OK. S'mores has her favorite box back now, and she's rather happy with it :)
