Hello,

I'm very curious about what you guys think about cardboard bedding.

I don't post a lot of stuff but I really like to see all of your pictures en I noticed there are n't many piggies on cardboard here. Here in The Netherlands it's more popular, I use it with my piggies too and i'm very happy with it. My piggies can dig in it (I think it's really important that they can dig, because I have two boys who really like to do that and search for food in their bedding, it keeps them busy) and make nice sleeping spots, it is dust free and I don't have to clean the cage two times a week like I did before, every other day I take the pee spots out and put some new bedding there and that way I only have to clean the whole cage after about 9-10 days. I use cardboard shavings from Ecobed:

Well, after my whole story my only question is why I don't see it that much on this forum, is it because you did not know about it, or is it that there aren't any stores which sell it over there? Or do you have other reasons? I am very interested in what you think about it.

Thank you for reading my whole story and I would like to know all your opinions!

I use a type of cardboard bedding called Papelit which is made by the same people who make Finacard. Finacard looks the same as the cardboard shavings that you have posted. I have never seen the brand that you have posted but it may exist in the UK (someone else might know it).

I find cardboard bedding extremely absorbent and it doesn't smell!

We used BedXcel as our base layer before switching to Puppy Pads.. It looks the same as your product. The only reason we changed from it was that the amount of waste we were generating every week during cage clean, its a lot with 11 piggies... ;)

I have just got to the end of a bag of finacard which is the same as ecobale but it's in strips rather than squares. I like it - it's absorbent and they must find it comfy as I often find them sleeping on it instead of their fleecey things!

I really wanted to ise cardboard but its not widely available in uk. With 18 pigs I need something I can pick up locally as I dont have space to store lots of bales and get through it quickly but cant afford to pay postage and be available for weekly deliveries

I use cardboard, I get it from a local farm shop called WCF (west cumberland farmers). It's only £5 something a bale which is 20kg, it's the most economical bedding I've found so far as I can pick it up myself, it has no dust, doesn't smell and is pretty absorbent.

They sell finacard at my local garden centre and I used to use it on top of newspaper and underneath the hay in my rabbits litter trays to add a more absorbent layer, it worked okay but just stick to newspaper and hay now as the finacard was just going everywhere and my shed rabbits are diggers!
It's only £5 for a large bale bag though so it is something I will definitely use when my piggies come along! Sounds like it would be good for the litter trays :)

I can get walmsley premier bed for £6 a bale locally but I use woodshavings for most of my pets apart from teh pigs who have a suedecloth cage liner
