Hi..I'm back with yet another problem 😔
Two of my newer girls have had an impossibly stubborn case of hay mites. Yes i have read guides on here, guinealynx, every thread that exists on it here already. We have done two rounds of 3x xeno each 2 weeks apart. The second time we did this we also doubled up with lice and easy shampoo, we have done 3 or 4 shampoos. Still (especially on one girl, if it was just the other I wouldve almost left it because she barely had any, its one girl in particular whose immune system clearly cant keep them in check and her back end was covered in them).

The shampoo helped reduce them to almost nothing doing that every week with the xeno. But as soon as we stop shampooing, back theyre coming and multiplying on her again. We have 60° washed everything we have F10ed the cage, we even put them in brand new cages! We got rid of the hay we were suspicious of.

We are asking the vets for stronghold but we dont know yet if they will allow it as i understand its not licenced and is prescription only, a vet saw hay mites before and didnt even flag it as an issue or parasite.

If i can get stronghold will the spot on version be enough? Ive read it lasts a month unlike xeno so will I wait 4 weeks before applying the second course? Or still do it every 2 weeks?

If i cant get this then I genuinely dont know what to do with her.

I’m so sorry to hear this.

To double check, it was the 450 xeno that was used?
Hay mites don’t live in the skin and while xeno is the right treatment, it doesn’t affect them completely the way it does mange mites (which do live in the skin).

Would it possible for you to cut her hair to remove as many eggs as you can?

Otherwise, you have done everything we would suggest so far. The next step would be asking for a different product - as you are doing - but possibly injections.
Stronghold isn’t as widely used as xeno so I don’t know from personal experience but if it lasts 4 weeks, then the second treatment would be at the 4th week

Yes the 450. Have been cutting them off the fur whenever I see them. Its more likely I could get something else as a spot on rather than injection here so I'm worried that wont be enough :(
