Can you tell how old a guinea pig is

the reason i ask is the pet shop not far from me (not a pets at home ) has a guinea pig in there and the man who ownes the shop is claming she is only 12 weeks .

well i no she is not as i saw her in there longer than 12 weeks ago also she is living with a rabbit in a big dog cage.

He is probably saying that if he feels it is easier to sell a youngster, but I imagine that what you were thinking anyway. It's not easy. Nails can be an indicator, but not so accurate as to be a guide for just weeks or a couple of months. But the chances are it is probably up to about a month or so older but he doesn't want to say so people still think they are buying a baby. Standard pet shop practice sadly, in some pet shops. xx
