Can we buy Baytril without a vet consultation? And help with sighing in the night?

Just as the title says really..

Scruff is sounding a little like a cold is coming on and he responded really well to the baytril last time. Thought it may be worth getting some in without dragging him out in the freezing cold.

Although i may have to take him to the vet for another reason. Ive noticed him quietly sighing in the night. I dont want to say its whimpering but it's not as bad as that, more like a closed mouth hum/sigh. Does anyone have any clues about this? Someone kindly replied and said it could be an issue when he goes to the toilet, I really hope he isnt sick as my little diego still has pneumonia and i would be devastated if scruff was also sick too :(

I am sorry, all antibiotics are POM - prescription only medication - and are not available without consultation.

It would be good to see a vet to make sure that it is his breathing and not a sign of pain.

I agree, you really need to see a vet. One of mine had sniffles last week & I literally took her straight away to make sure it wasn't a URI as these things are much more serious if left too long. I was almost 100% certain mine didn't have a URI but nonetheless I wasn't going to take any chances so got it checked out.

Yes, its a priscription only I'm afraid. If you are very lucky you may be able to ring up and ask if you can get some without a consultation. If the vet has seen your piggie recently or does know you well you may be lucky and get some but i really wouldnt count on it. Its usually better for him to be seen though I'm afraid.

x.

thank you. I kinda knew I had to take him, I would never let him suffer. I think I'm just struggling with them. First they hated each other, and still do, Diego has been sick and on medication since the start of november and now scruff is sick too. It just makes me really sad.

Will make him an appointment and get him sorted out. thank you x

I got mine from the vet nurse and didnt have to pay a consultation for my rabbit, although he was waiting to be neutered and thats when they noticed his sneezing so maybe thats why they didnt charge

I'd be surprised if you could get it without a consultation. Enrofloxacin is quite a potent antibiotic and while it sometimes seems like it is, it's not just given out for the sake of it.

Always a good idea to get a vet to check him out, there might be something going on that you haven't picked up on, lung sounds and stuff are often indicators of what's going on.

Had him at the vet yesterday. He has the beginnings of a URI, so we got him some Baytril. Hopefully that'll get working and he'll be ok. Thank you for all of your help xx

I'm sorry Diego is still sick must be even worse for you now Scruff is sick too. Hopefully you've caught it early enough and Scruff will be better soon. Sending healing vibes.
