Hi

I just saw this hutch at a good price on amazon, so I bought it in advance of getting 2 piggies in Feb. There are lots of options for hutch covers and I wonder if someone can recommend one to me.

I was going to build the hutch myself, but at the price this one made it worth just buying one and saving myself the bother. It looks like a good and well built hutch. The pull out plastic trays will be a great time saver too. I will add an internal ramp to turn it into a two story house. I might remove the lower sleeping space wall too, to make the ground level a single large open space.

My amazon wishlist is currently very long with all the rest of the items I am going to buy closer to the time! :)

EDIT - Added Tiny URL link since the forum messed up the direct amazon link!

In case it is of interest. Here is the rest of my amazon list. Should be enough playthings to keep them happy in the hutch and run.

  • Grassy Hutch house 2 door
  • Grassy Hutch house 1 door
  • Wicker Bridge
  • Knut-Knot Nibbler
  • SnuggleSafe BUNNY/GUINEA PIG WARREN - the ultimate all-weather extendable play tunnel
  • Grooming Glove
  • Extra Large Lettuce Hay Manger
  • Hi Sided Corner Litter Tray
  • Snuggles Reversible Snuggle Tunnel x 2
  • Gravity Bin Feeder For Rabbit Guinea Pig Hutch Cage
  • Burns Willow Chew Sticks For Rabbits & Guinea Pigs
  • Classic Colourtone Bunny Bottle Rabbit Water Bottle 600 x 2
  • Snack Ball
  • Rabbit Hutch Water Bottle Insulator "Bottle Snug" x 2

I especially like the snack ball. It is a plastic ball with an adjustable sized hole. You fill the ball with food treats, pieces of veg and wotnot. And the piggies have to roll the ball around to make the treats fall out so they can eat them. Should be good for keeping them occupied :)

I have one of these hutches for my lads. It came as a two storey, with a ramp, and it is a good hutch. I know you didn't ask about locks, but if it just comes with the wood bits to lock, you will need to add 4 x barrel locks too.
My hutch is in a heated shed now, but during the summer when it was outside, I didnt use a custom made, hutch hugger. I used an old single sleeping bag fully opened, right over the top and front, and part of the sides, and a tarpaulin over that. Secured down with bricks, and two garden chairs pushed in front of it it stop it flapping around. Worked a treat, and I really felt it was really warm for them. When it rained during the day, I pulled the tarpaulin part way down, but they were in a very sheltered position, so not really affected by wind or rain. xx

Yes. I figured I would need locks if I don't put the hutch in the garage.

I would prefer a custom hutch hugger, but am having problems finding the right size. Anyone?

Hi

I had a custom hutch cover made for my huge 2 storey 6 foot long hutch from ebay and its fantastic - the seller was great, they just need the dimensions of your hutch (minus the legs) and will quote you a price - after I ordered mine arrived within about 7- 10 days which I thought was fantstic since it was made to order.

My hutch cover has a thermal layer underneath the waterproof layer and has 3 removalable fronts - a waterproof cover, a flynet and a night time cover.

I would definately reccomend it and pretty cost effective to as it cost me about the same to buy a hutch cover and hutch snuggle from pets at home for my old much smaller hutch as it did to but this huge one

If you're after a hutch snuggle, you may want to think anout making one yourself instead. Our double hutch has an apex roof so I was really struggling to find something to fit.

If you want to have a go, get yourself some of this kinda stuff.. http://www.just-insulation.com/ufoil.html (I got mine from B & Q) and a roll of duck tape and hey-presto. A hutch snuggle!

It may be a bit of a faff to fit, but you'll save yourself loads of money :)

I wish there was a way of thanking you twice. That is the perfect solution :)

woohoo... The hutch arrived today in it's big flatpack box. Can't wait until after christmas to build it, add an internal ramp and fill it up with piggies (well, two piggies anyway) :)

We decided on a different location too. The hutch was going in a garage with a ramp leading to an outdoor area. But for various reasons we scrapped that plan and settled on a paved area for them right near the kitchen window. They will be able to access at least 4x5 of paved outdoor space during the day all year around. The outdoor area will have a cover for the roof during rain, snow etc and is in a nice sheltered and shady spot.

This also means we will be able to see and hear them while cooking etc :)
