Edward is 6 and a half and neutered. I’m not sure whether he is a little impacted or just producing a few soft poos which is normal for him. I’ve just cleaned some soft poo from around his penis and bottom and he’s just done a few normal poos. Can older neutered boars become impacted or does it just happen with un neutered boars? Does this sound like impaction? I’ve never dealt with it before

Neutered boars can get impaction but it much more minor than with full boars as the lack the stretched anal sac between the descended testicles.

However, soft poos are not impaction. Has he has grass today?

Thank you both. I'll keep an eye on him and keep his bottom clean. No @Wiebke he hasn't had any grass since last Thursday but he keeps getting soft poos mixed in with his normal ones

Hi
Older piggies can develop an tender digestion. See whether a little added probiotic powder can help.
Impaction is a solid but shapeless large lump.

Thank you. I have some Pro C so I'll try him on that. It doesn't sound like he is impacted then as there's definitely not a shapeless large lump

It's much smaller than in full boars but it is definited one big shapeless poo mass the same consistency as that of normal boars.

In my own experiences with a couple of impacted older neutered boars, they have generally been able to push it or for me to clear them out easily. ;)

Thank you. He doesn't have anything like that, just a bit of a dirty bum and a soft poo squashed to his penis. He's ok now I have given him a clean so I will keep an eye on him :)

Glad the lovely Edward just got himself a bit mucky and it’s nothing more to deal with.

@Claire W you will know if it is impaction, as when you look at their bottom area you will see a plug of poop. In my experience impaction doesn’t come out on its own. You have to help it out once a piggy is getting impacted then it needs clearing everyday and doesn’t get better on its own. Hope that helps. 😁
