We recently adopted two guineapigs. One of them is basically a cloud of long haired fluff. They were supposed to be outdoors so I have a brand new hutch but instead are niw living inside šŸ˜.

Is it practical to keep a long haired pig outside? I know he will require regular brushing and trims. We're in the south do it gets hot and a little worried about flies.

You would need to keep the bum fur trimmed short and make sure no poo gets caught up in it. Long haired piggies do take that extra little bit of grooming. We kept both our long haired ladies bum fur short to avoid matts etc....

I have a long haired boy outdoors. I have an insulating cover for their hutch which protects against heat as well as cold. I also keep his bum hair trim and give him a weekly bum bath with a damp flannel as he does have a tendency to be a bit messy

Betsy (my avatar) is a long haired piggy. She has a visit to the Ironing Board Salon every 6-8 weeks to have bum bath and a very fashionable wedge cut but not in the winter when it is a bit chillier (she is an outside piggy) when she just has a quick cut to keep the worst of the tangles/poops/wee/boar glue away. In the summer when it is really hot her visit to the Ironing board Salon is spread over 2 days as she gets a cool grade 4 with the pet clippers. It takes 2 days cos she will only let me do half one day and the other half the next.
