Hi all I was wondering if I can use old shredded paper for my piggy's as I'm not to sure if its safe or not. I shredded aload of old paperwork yesterday and it crossed my mind if I could use it for my piggy's or not as they love hiding and running under their newspaper in their play pen would this be safe to use thank you x

It would depend on if the paper has ink on it and also how thick it is.Ink could possibly poison the Guinea pig, and really thick paper could possibly get stuck in the pigs throat if it can't dissolve. Also, I recommend somthing else other than paper anyways because paper isn't very good at soaking up urine and doesn't block odors.;)

I had a go with shredded paper when I 1st had Guinea Pigs as I can get plenty from work . It's not worthwhile ! It makes a horrible soggy mess!

ah thank you its just thin plain paper i shreeded some old work documents and thought id put it to good use i tried it in their play pen they loved burying themselves in it but yes it did make a soggy mess lol x

well i did tried it once and my piggies loved to hide in it. but when i cleaned it all there urine and poop was dripping and dropping every where!:vom: so i wouldnt use it for litter trays and stuff. but now i still use shredded papper, i put it on top of there wooden box (out side piggies) but i put a blanket or a towl under it then put the paper over it so when i pick it up to clean it i just grab the blanket or towl :tu:
