Hi and welcome!

Yes, please keep especially the hairs around the bum end, genitalia and legs short to prevent soiling and matting. For the same reason, you may also want to cut off the under-hairs on the sides to allow your piggies to lead a happy piggy life.
In summer, especially during heat waves, long-haired guinea pigs are much happier with a short haircut so they don't have to lug the equivalent of a skisuit on a tropical beach around. Don't worry, but autumn the hair will have grown back!

Avril is the first long haired Guinea Pig I’ve owned. She has beautiful fur, but needs regular trims. I do my best, but am not going to win any styling awards! She doesn’t seem to care if she’s a bit lopsided though!

Thanks a lot will definitely be giving her a bit of trim😊

Just always cut off what is matted or soiled; you need to do that regularly in summer as it can attract vermin. If necessary give your long-hairs a baby warm plain water bum bath but I have generally found it more effective to cut off any problem hair first.

You'll get the hang of how long/short your want to keep the overall hair to allow the piggies a good piggy life but still enjoy their beauty. ;)

I had to cut my Betsy's fur the other day. I hate cutting off her beautiful skirt but it gets covered in wee and boar glue and gets matted. She hates having the fur cut on her back legs so I don't do that except in the summer when it's really hot. Normally I keep her fur long and she just gets a very fashionable wedge cut around her bum. In the summer when she has her summer hairdo she has a grade 5 all over✂

That is about the length I cut my long-hairs back, too.

Gethin, my sheltie, has wonderful hair and it is always a pity to cut it back!
I thought about putting it in ponytails to keep her hair, but I’m sure Rapunzel wouldn’t like that and i have to do what’s best for her. She still looks beautiful even with her buzz-cut bum!

I was wondering, I know I've heard about wrapping long guinea pig hair. I am wondering what you guys think of wrapping guinea pig hair.
I don't know what anybody else thinks about it but I personally don't like it. I have seen a You Tube video of someone wrapping a piggy's hair and the piggy was trying to get away and the person kept putting it back so that the hair could continue to be wrapped. The piggy didn't look very happy at the end of the video either.

Not something I would consider - it doesn't seem right in my opinion
I somewhat agree, but my piggie is getting matted fur and gets a bit wet with pee in floor time and I don't want to Pumkin to be uncomfortable

I have used unscented baby wipes on Priscilla's bottom occasionally.
I find that keeping her bum fur trimmed and bathing her rear end when necessary keeps it clean.
This seems to work but with long haired piggies a wet / damp bum is going to happen.
Just cut out any matted fur and keep it short at the back.

My Sheltie, Claudio (pictured) is very happy to sit while I play hairdresser. His hair grows very quickly and I normally take 1-2” off every month. Because he is so good at sitting still, I am able to do a decent job. On the other hand, his friend Rupert who is Abyssinian/Peruvian hates having his hair groomed or trimmed so he gets a quick pudding bowl cut!
I may take Claudio’s hair shorter for the summer but he seems happy as long as it isn’t dragging on the ground.

I wrote this a while ago. Hope it helps!

It's a bit of fun but informative at the same time:)

Wrapping is done by people who show long haired pigs - I should think it’s quite uncomfortable for the piggie as it would be like you having hair rollers in 24/7! There are YouTube clips on how to clip you piggie which is what I watched to get a general idea of what to do. The result wasn’t stylish but it got rid of unnecessary hair!

It doesn't matter if its stylish or not your piggie won't realise and he/she will be much more comfortable.
