Hello, I posted on here a couple of weeks ago about a bonding (that I messed up by separating them!) and was hoping to get some further reassurance...it’s been so stressful!
I have two gorgeous sows who are nearly 4 months old. We have introduced two bonded baby sows who are now about 10 weeks old. All four of them are very chilled out characters. They have been together full time about a week now. Here are some behaviour observations, please tell me this is ok and normal and I can start to relax?
- They eat together, no fighting over food etc
- The older ones give the little ones a lick/bum sniff quite often
- They are all happy to relax/lay/nap near each other
I think all of this is positive. What worries me is
- The young ones were very loud wheekers before being put with the older ones. Now they are very quiet.
- The two older sows (they were very well bonded and both very chilled out in character) teeth chatter occasionally. They never used to do this before the young ones were introduced.
- The older ones sometimes seem to really annoy the young ones by following them.
Any advice or thoughts appreciated. I can separate them if need be but they make a lovely gang together so hoping this is just part of the hierarchy sort out!

I had a similar experience when I added a baby sow to a group of three.
It took all of them a while to feel fully comfortable with the new group dynamic, but they did settle eventually.
Just make sure the cage is large enough for four, and you also have at least 5 hides between them while they are settling down.
Also make sure you have plenty of food, hay and water places so they aren't competing for resources.

thank you! They have lots of hides and food etc. They have been spending the warm days out in the sun enjoying themselves which is resulting in less following around!
