My guinea piggy Pippi is on baytril for a minor URI as well as bumblefoot..I read you can soak piggy paws into betadine diluted with warm water.. but I want to know if I can just put it directly on his paw that has an open wound.. he keeps biting off one part of the dry skin causing it to bleed.

Advice please! Also how much betadine should I mix with water to soak his other feet?

Thanks in advance

I used a product called Zymox on my pigs that have had Bumblefoot but I think you need a proper diagnosis from the vets. He is also likely to need pain relief.

You could put it directly onto the skin and leave it there but it would be better to soak the feet to be honest. Leaving it on the skin will cause it to become sticky probably and bother him more. Iodine in an open wound is ok, we actually tend to use idodine over other disinfectants for open wounds sometimes as its nicer on the skin than other antibacterials. As with dilution, have a look on the bottle and see if it suggests a specific dilution, I usually do it appox 1:10 but its never accurate. Yes, you do need a veterinary diagnosis of bumblefoot, it does often (with true bumblefoot) need antibiotics to clear it up, as well as pain relief if possible. Iodine will do no harm, but its unlikely to clear the infection. Ideally the wound will need a check if he is self traumatising the reason for this needs to be addressed to stop this continuing.
