I’m new to this forum ! I have three guides pigs and was thinking if I could make a run out of metal grids I could keep the Guinean pigs outside on the grass . The only problem is our neighbors have a cat and I don’t know if it would be a problem . Also can birds be a problem . If so I can cover the top with grids.

Guinea pigs if the are going to live outside need to live in a secure hutch.

How are you housing them at the moment?

Do you mean for run times?

I would never leave them in a run unsupervised.... if they live outside then that's a different thing...

A metal cage is too flimsy if you are going to keep them outside. You need a decent hutch and a predator proof run.

If you are talking about them permanently living outside then no, that would not work. As stated above by @Betsy, a metal run is too flimsy and predetors can easily get to them. You will need a stable, strong, proper sized hutch for them to live in, with a predator proof run. If it it just for outside time, you will still need to supervise them while they are in the metal run.

Even as a temporary run this should not be left unsupervised. Cats, foxes, even the likes of magpies can be very determined in getting into spaces like this and could quite easily cause fatal damage

Thank you everyone I am going to get a shed or a hutch . At the moment I have the guinea pigs inside with a five by five c and c cage with fleece

If you are going to move indoors piggies outdoors please be sure to acclimatise them gently. They will need a decent sized shed and a sturdy hutch and lots of insulation. It will be costly. Is there any reason why you plan to move them outside if they have lived as indoors piggies?

We plan to move them outside so they can have more room. We are planning on setting more piggies and we do not have enough room . But thankyou for your advice
