I have just picked up our pigs from their holiday stay and was driving them back when Mikey made the weirdest noise.

They weren't happy about being in the travel cage but had started to settle when one of them growled - my betting is Mikey. He then made a noise that I can only describe as being a cross between a sneeze, choking and a quacking noise. He did it three times then lay down very still. I was having kittens because I thought he had choked and was looking for somewhere to stop and wondering how to do CPR on a guinea pig. Then he moved - thank goodness.

Is this the cross sneezing that I have heard of ?

One of our piggies does this unusual sound very occasionally, sounds more like a muffled bark to us. We have only noticed him doing it when he's sleeping, we thought it might be him dreaming. Of course the first he did it, we checked on him and all he did was wake up stretch and look for food... Little so and so... x

That sounds like it - Mikey is our 7th pig and just when you think you have seen it all, they go and do something new.

It wasn't a hooting sound was it? followed by a cough?

Keep an eye on it, as it can be a sign of a heart condition (easily treated with meds) but hopefully was a one off.

Thank you - will definitely keep an watch out for that !

Mine occasionally make this strange noise, cough/sneeze/choking, but they only usually do it if we have just lifted them up a little too squeezed.
