Can Guinea Pigs Get Fleas From Dogs?

My brothers puppy is being treated for fleas. For thanksgiving break, the puppy will be in the house and he likes to lay by the cage and watch the piggies. Should I worry about the pigs getting fleas from him? What is a good preventitive if needed?

Hi! Guinea pigs don't have species specific fleas, but they can be affected by them in the short term until the fleas realise that they have got the wrong host.

The best preparation would be to remove the piggies to a room the dog can't get into this year (please lock the door!) Flea sprays for larger animals contain ingredients which are harmful and can even kill guinea pigs, so they should not come into contact with them.
