Hi All,

We are going away this weekend and a friend is popping in to check on the piggies and feed them. She has a bad back so bending down to clean their cage would be hard for her (they're now on a 3x5 c&c cage on the floor).

I'd planned to put fitch down on the whole of the cage, but I have trialled it on part of the cage and the boys definitely prefer fleece.

So...basically, would it be ok to have fleece down on say, half the cage, and Fitch on the other half - bearing in mind it wouldn't be spot cleaned from Fri 4pm until Sun at probably 4pm too. Or should I stop letting them be so pampered and just put down fitch for the duration?

They poo all over the place...in fact, now I think about it, they poo more in non eating areas than eating areas lol

Thank you!
Laura

oooh, I don't know, I couldn't do that with mine, there would be masses of poop lol. Plus one of them pee's a lot.

Hopefully someone will post with some ideas :D

Can you use a few layers of fleece? I use about 5 layers of good-quality fleece in my 2x4 C&C cages (each housing 2x piggies); this kept things nice and dry, with not too much smell, once when I didn't clean for about 36 hours - I was down with 'flu. Damp hay and poop will always be a problem, though... And the washing afterwards was a bit of a nightmare :)

It depends on how good your pigs are with going in the right places and how many pigs there are. You could always trial not cleaning them out until Friday to see how they cope.

I would just put finch down and maybe some soft houses for them to lay on.

I bet it was!

Thanks everyone. For the first time today, Barlo slept on the Fitch! Bizarre! I feel a little happier now leaving them on all fitch and leaving them a couple of fleeces for sleeping on. I dread to think what I might come back to if I leave them for the 2 days without being spot cleaned. I think having a couple of fleece sleeping areas is a good compromise. Thanks all
