I just noticed on the guineapigcages website it says that baby pigs need additional height on c&c cages.

I'm going to be making guinea pigs pens in the shed and want to make the wire about 30cm high, but two of my pigs are only a few months old, so does 30cm sound ok? They'll be on shelves a few feet off the ground, so I definitely don't want them to fall. I have no idea if they can jump high, one does jump onto his hidey house, about 15cm high.

Do many pigs jump out of c&c cages or are they usually fine?

C&C cages are usually fine. It's just that youngsters tend to be more energetic and inquisitive and can have a tendency to get into trouble.

Thanks :)

I really hope mine won't jump out, I'll just have to watch them when they first move into their new home and see hopefully they won't be silly enough too :)

could you not for now get a piece of net curtain or mesh and cover the top so they cant jump out? the when they are bigger it can be removed?

I could I guess. I think I'll watch them for say an hour when I put them in the pen. If they're trying to get out, or can get anywhere near getting out, then I can put them in their hutch until I think of something better, or I can make the walls higher possibly. I'd prefer for them to be about 30cm though, so I can easily clean it out without having to stand on something!

I notice a lot of people have c&c cages on stands, and have never heard of a pig jumping out, thankfully.

Make sure that you do not have any platform they can jump on right next to the grids and you will be fine. Most piggies only jump what they can put their front paws on. I haven't heard of a piggy jumping our of a C&C cage!

I thinkt he additional sides are not on top of the grids to keep them from jumping over but on the correx to keep them inside as small piggies can fit through the grid squares?
